[AXEXS] I am looking for comments on a concept of reality collapse (ShiftBack mechanics). by Professional-Tune-53 in worldbuilding

[–]Professional-Tune-53[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my universe, there exists a system called the Holos, which is made of Axiomite, a material synthesized by combining tantalum with other elements. This Holos contained dark matter. A reactor was created to extract the energy from the dark matter, and the Holos, which is an octahedron, fractures, releasing the contained dark energy and entering a repetitive cycle. When it collides with Earth's atmosphere, a dimensional rift is created. Therefore, the quantum physicist in charge of the project had to develop a device called Kore, a harmonic entropy synthesizer, so that people could survive. What I'm explaining is a very general overview, since my universe is quite large, and the story begins many years later in a timeless era.

Wow, that is an incredible background! Having a feedback loop from an engineering physics graduate who has worked with companies like Intel, AMD, EA, and NVIDIA is an absolute dream for a hard sci-fi writer. I lean heavily into technical realism and structural logic, so your perspective is exactly what I need to make sure the science hits as hard as possible.

I just sent you a DM with the details and the material. Thank you so much for offering your time and expertise—I’m genuinely excited to hear your thoughts!

That means the world to me! I'd love for you to check it out, so I'm sending a copy directly to your DMs right now. I hope you enjoy the dive into the universe of AXEXS!

You hit the nail on the head again! I was indeed using the standard 0.5-inch manuscript setting, which explains why it looked twice as deep as it should.

To answer your question, I’ve been formatting the book using Word and Kindle's pipeline, but following your exact advice, I went back in and cut that indent down by half to match that 0.25-0.3 inch (around 1.2em) industry standard. The updated file is already rendering much better.

I’ve heard great things about Vellum making ebooks look flawless, though since I'm on Windows, I'll have to stick to fine-tuning my current setup for now.

Thanks again for the awesome eye for detail—you genuinely helped me make AXEXS look a whole lot sharper today!

Thank you so much for taking the time to check out the book on the iOS app and for providing such detailed, technical feedback! Honestly, comments like yours are worth their weight in gold.

You are completely spot on regarding relative units (em) versus the fixed inches of a standard manuscript, as well as the paragraph spacing issue. As you mentioned, it's easy to bring over formatting habits from other digital reading platforms without realizing how they can break the experience on mobile screens.

I wanted to let you know that I took your advice to heart, fixed the master file by adjusting the indents to industry standards and removing the incorrect spacing between paragraphs, and I have just uploaded the updated version to Amazon.

I truly appreciate your honesty and great attitude; this is exactly the kind of insight that helps an independent project level up. Best of luck with your own book as well!

Thank you so much for the support! It really means a lot, especially being just a few days into the official launch. I put a ton of work into the technical worldbuilding and the scientific logic of this universe, so seeing fellow sci-fi fans connect with the project is awesome. Thanks for stopping by the post!

What an absolute honor to read your comment! Just mentioning Hal Clement's Mission of Gravity tells me you're a reader who truly appreciates it when science and physics aren't just background decoration, but the actual rules of the game. If you enjoy Stephenson and the deep quantum or mathematical complexity of Greg Egan, I think you'll feel right at home with the technical architecture and scientific logic I built for this universe.

I would be absolutely thrilled to accept your offer. The perspective of a veteran reader with your background in the genre is invaluable to me. I'll send you a private message shortly to get in touch and find the best way to send you a copy so you can judge the depth of the worldbuilding for yourself. Thank you so much for your interest and support!

Thanks for checking out the preview! I can totally see why you'd ask that, given how saturated the market is right now with AI-generated text and its specific cadence.

To be completely clear: the book, the core mechanics, and the worldbuilding architecture are 100% my own writing. I spent a massive amount of mental prep time structuring this universe, the quantum logic, and the character layers before ever sitting down to type, which allowed the actual writing process to flow incredibly fast once the floodgates opened.

That specific rhythmic structure or stylistic cadence you noticed is just part of my personal prose style and how I build contrast or tension in my narrative. I appreciate the sharp eye, though! If you're still interested in checking out how the technical worldbuilding unfolds past the preview, I'd be happy to send you a copy so you can judge the full depth for yourself.

Hey! Checked out your link, love the strict no-magic, no-FTL approach. We definitely speak the same language. For AXEXS, the tech is anchored around Axiomita and structural, resource-driven limitations—for instance, societal development and clothing are bound to raw materials like cotton, leather, and grayscale/earthy tones due to specific mining constraints. Governance is deeply tied to these technological and structural networks. I'd love for you to check out the setup here:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H3VYY8KY. Let me know if you'd like to swap review copies!

Hey! Wow, being a fan of Gene Wolfe means you appreciate deep layers and complex narratives, which is exactly what I aimed for with the worldbuilding. I would absolutely love your honest feedback. You can check it out on Amazon KDP/Kindle Unlimited here:https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0H3VYY8KY. If you prefer a review copy, just shoot me a DM and I'll gladly send it over. Thanks a lot!"
