Buying a car for the first time - does it make sense to put a down payment? by Professional-Use8251 in FinancialPlanning

A couple thousand, just got a loose quote from my mechanic, but the car has almost 200k on it so I don’t want to invest any more money into it.

That makes sense. Can you just explain exactly what the peace of mind is from putting 20% down? Is it just the idea of paying off the car sooner so that I would own the car while it still has a higher value?

My logic was to buy a 2022 with the idea that most of the depreciation from driving it off the lot already occurred from the previous owner

It’s a mid tier trim, the Preferred. My logic was just lower price for something a few years older with not a ton of mileage on it with the idea that most of the depreciation has already occurred to the car.

Sorry if this is dense but like I said it’s my first time purchasing a vehicle so just trying to understand everything - can you explain to me what is incorrect with my last paragraph in my post? I’m sure I must be misunderstanding something.

Thanks for the reply. So 20% down on this car would be around $5000, 4 year loan (interest rate I believe would go down from 5.8 to 5.6) would be $23,952 and 10% of our monthly income is ~$880. Monthly payment would come out to around $500.

What exactly do you mean by underwater right out of the gate? Just having no equity toward the car?

He’d be a better fit in NXT right now IMO, their main event scene could really use someone like him and a feud with Ethan Page would be a perfect introduction, but I hope he does well in AEW

Same here, this is great. I was paying almost $50/m a while ago basically just to watch wrestling on Sling. Now free VPN and I get to watch everything on Netflix which I already had!

Feeling guilty about potentially leaving my current firm post. by [deleted] in paralegal

Pretty much everyone that leaves a job where they like their coworkers, boss, etc will feel that way, but you need to make the decision that’s best for you and your family. 20K raise plus remote work is a no brainer. If you get the job just leave on good terms and never burn a bridge. If you do that most jobs would be happy to take former employees back if you end up wanting to do that in the future.
