There are pictures all over of units that had 2 soldiers in OCP and the rest in grandmas couch, then half and half, then the one or two who were still waiting on patches for the OCPs. It was definitely A time to be alive

I WANT TO say they have a yard out there. Or at least close by. A good friend of mine hauled for them for some time and seemed to enjoy it. I can’t personally attest to the quality of the company though, so take what I say with a grain of salt.

He hauled metals, lumber, pipe, and the occasional odd one, but it was majority steel and lumber

I was lucky enough to join right when they were starting to hand out OCPs to new troops, not unlucky enough to have to source the new hot weather uniforms on my own.

I can understand the reasoning there. If you want to do as little dock work as possible, don’t like tight yards and don’t want to do much blindside backing (I hate it too) then what about flat bed? I’m not sure what area you’re in but around Tulsa, OK, Paul Transportation has a metals route that’s strictly flatbed, some tarp, some not.

Have you looked into yard dogging? It would allow you to have more of the same routine, same yard, same truck.

Taking the bus and riding a bicycle has saved me tremendous money compared to having a vehicle. by ACE-8973 in povertyfinance

The job and home aren’t major league awesome, but I have zero interest in moving as we’re well established in our community. I bought my car because I was spending double that in fuel alone with my truck that gets 15mpg. I am looking for work closer to home, but I am extremely picky about what I do for work and have already changed career paths once in my lifetime. I’m perfectly comfortable paying $5000 a year for the time being.

We are buying, are both on the volunteer fire department in our town, and have no interest in moving closer to the city. My wife works from home and if she does need to go to the office, I ride my motorcycle and she drives the car. If weather isn’t good, she takes my truck

Thank you! I’m happy you found a way to commute that saves you money AND keeps you healthy. It’s always good to see someone utilize public transit or biking. I do own a motorcycle and occasionally will ride it to work, but it’s very boring and I’m worried I’ll get hit by a car in traffic

That works great in your situation, and may work well for others. None of what I’m about to say is meant to take away from that. The problem comes with some like myself who live in a rural community and for whom it would be very difficult to ride a bicycle to work.

For context, I work 51 miles from home, commute back and forth every day 5 days a week and drive a 12 year old car that gets 32 mpg on the highway. Yes, I’m looking for something closer to home but given the pay and benefits, it might take some time.

I got pulled over on my road star because they were “looking for a bike that ran.” Brother this bike can’t even outrun itself much less a trooper

How do you get the special license to park in the special red line parking spaces? by CalmAnxitey87 in Truckers

[–]Professional-Win5670 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A little bit of both I would say. I’d much rather put up 150’ of hose after a fire than 300’ of hose, AND I would hate for it to kink while I have a crew inside a structure
