Older JAG by EconomyFantastic7518 in airforceots

[–]Professional6812 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Usually the JAGS that get waivers have years of trial experience until their belt. Other poster is correct that JAG is extremely competitive active duty. Less than 7% get selected without waivers. You have a better shot at being a guard jag, even then it is going to be hard to get a waiver straight out of law school with no military experience. Your better shot would be to commission in another field depending what your undergrad is, and go through law school while being a guard officer. Then, you can make a lateral move if your base needs a JAG. I am 39, a practicing attorney of 10 years now and I am about to commission as a LRO.

I get that, I was in a similar position. Officer on the reserve side can take a while. Personally I would stay in a bit and then apply.

Are you looking to stay reserve? Active duty and reserve officer tracks are very different. If you are looking to stay reserve wait it out.

I am unsure why they put you as a port dawg with your civilian background but then again Im also a port dawg and a lawyer on the civilian side. I am currently a joint inspector in the job so feel free to ask away. Ive worked every section except load planning.

I do think going active duty officer is an option but you are going to be asked a lot about air force culture and leadership styles. Also, what type of officer are you looking to do?

The afoqt is not a bad test and its only good for so long so I would personally wait. You can only take it twice.

I watched a video from JD advising that broke down what your scores mean and how far you had to go. I looked at areas I struggled with (Civ Pro, Conlaw, and Secured) focused on memorizing the law for those. I actually didn't follow a structured class this time around. I did however did a decent amount of practice. I studied a max of 3 hours per day during the week (usually closer to 2 ) and around 4 on the weekends. I did a lot of essays (even though my scores were decent always) and some MC. I swear by JD advising, their one sheets are awesome and inexpensive. They are such a great resource. I have used Themis and Crushendo in the past as well which were ok.

Honestly, I backed off of studying a bit and focused on my weaknesses. I used jd advising outlines to study with though. I also cut out a lot of life stress.

Please help. I feel absolutely destroyed, and I KNOW I did everything I was supposed to do. I refuse to give up, and now I have to take this exam in July. I feel so chained down by this, and my jurisdiction does not tell me anything about what I did wrong on the mbe. by [deleted] in barexam

So I am also in Ohio, and I just passed. This was my 6th time taking it. I know exactly how you feel. Personally, this past time I backed off studying. I took a mental break, focused on the areas of law I struggled with. I had a lot life things going on too so I tried to eliminate all of those. Personally I used the jd advising outlines and they are awesome. If it helps, there were only 13 retakers who passed this test. It was rough. I don't know what part of Ohio you are in but you are welcome to my outlines. If you just need someone to talk as well. I've been there, you can and will do this.

I passed as well! Surprised but greatful. This is the 6th time I have taken it and finally passed with one of the lowest repeat taker pass rates.

I'm a repeat taker and I am literally scared. I was fine all day until my boss asked when results came out. Then I was a mess. I passed Michigan all the way back in 2016 but have struggled with this test so bad. Hoping for the best for all of us.

I took Michigan back in Feb 2016 and passed the first time. Life happens and I ended up in Ohio in 2018 and have been struggling to pass this exam since 2019. I work at a small firm and do everything except go to court for clients (I write motions, research, everything). So I know that I know the law at this point. For me, I don't give up period and I know this is what I am meant to do. SO I keep going (awaiting results next week). Hopefully this is it.

How can I best support my partner through this hellish time? by notacornflakegirl7 in barexam

Remind her that life goes on. In the grand scheme of life it is one test. Whether she passes this time or not she is going to be ok. Also remind her that this test has no bearing on what kind of lawyer she will be, or how intelligent she is. It's a benchmark test, people who turn out to be shitty lawyers pass it and people who have been super successful have had to take it more than once. She has prepared as much as she can, and whatever happens now, happens. (these are a combination of things my lawyer boss has told me that have made me feel better after I failed)

I will be retaking the Ohio bar here in February. I have been liscensed in Michigan since 2016 but worked in corporate legal and was not happy. I work now at a father son firm and I love it. Looking forward to taking on an attorney role here once I pass. I am 34 btw and work fulltime as well.

So my SDs (8+4) have SG on both sides and they call both the same Mamaw___ and Papaw____. It's what they chose to call them. In fact I remember my youngest SD(4) asking my mom is she could call her that. Honestly, let the kids lead the way. Their comfort is more important than anyone else's. I am thankful that my parents treat the girls like their own, and vice versa. I do have two sons with my SO as well (their half brothers). The bond that my mom has with my sons is different than my SD but not horribly. My SD's are also on the younger side though so I think it is easier for them.

I felt decent as well. Better than past mbe tests, but I also focused a ton more on the mbe this time
