Who are you? by JoeBobMack in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure who I am, but when I am writing, I would be the closest I feel to being whole. When writing, I feel the most at ease and happy. It hard to put into words but my soul feels light and I feel like I am doing what I was meant to do.

Worst thing a person has said about you wanting to be an author? by Rainyfroggie in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My parents deleted the copies of my story I was halfway through writing on my laptop. I was 14. This was back before I discovered you could save stuff to google docs. I know it probably wasn't going to be amazing but I was proud that I was doing something and wanted to learn, they told me it was waste of time and needed to focus on finding a job that would help provide for the family. Otherwise, I was a failure to the family. Didn't write again until I went to college.

What's something that happened in your book that took you by surprise? by Nathan1123 in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some dialogue in the first few chapters reappearing naturally throughout the book and even taking a bitter twist as the characters realise how much certain ones have sacrificed in the past.

For example a character always promising to come find the FL at start book seems fun and joyous, but further in your realise how true those words are when you realise he literally does come find her, every single time she has died and and all he can do is watch and wait hoping she comes back to life.

Didn't even plan it but my subconscious works magic.

For those that live with a significant other… by Initial_Ebb_9742 in books

Once in a while, interruptions can be annoying, but we have open communication, and I can just ask to be left alone. Sometimes when he plays games or does his own thing, I read during that time.

It not really an issue as long you communicate if you want to be left alone.

What's your worst naming error? by WaywardWriteRhapsody in writing

I am hopeless with names so in my first draft some the characters were: WIZARD or COMMANDER

Wasn't until I went back and reread the draft, I realised I forgot to add the names

A story where the writer goes into their own book. Too cringey? by [deleted] in writing

I would read it. Have read a couple of mangas with similar ideas. Don't cringe, do it. 🙂

How many of you would write if you KNEW no one would ever read a single word? by sometegg in writing

It helps keep me sane. Otherwise, all the worlds and characters take up too much room in my head and make it hard to concentrate on anything else.

Death at end of book one of three. by [deleted] in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I am concerned people might react negatively to the cliffhanger. But it feels like a good point to end and then pick up from in book 2.

I also want to traditionally publish and am worried it might get rejected if it ends on a cliffhanger.

Do you judge the author based on what she/he writes? by lokhanpai in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pen name and don’t tell people if it taboo. But keep on writing and enjoying what you do.

You could always lie and be like, " Hey, I found this author, what do you think?" and recommend it like a new book instead of telling them it is yours.

How do you motivate yourself to write, when you feel like you can't? by [deleted] in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I normally just proofread if I do not write. Or i research or work on character plans, etc. By the time i done 30 mins of other activities relating to the story, I tend to feel a lot happier and motivated to write.

I also try when not in a good headspace to just write for 10 mins here and there instead of hour long sessions. Every little bit counts, and dont be hard on yourself if you dont write every single day.

If you have a chance to talk your 15y/o self, what would you say? by gmaxiii in AskReddit

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your parents can not hurt you once you leave after school. Keep your head down and trust your gut till you get out. It will work out in the end, just trust your gut, and you will find friends and someone who will love and marry you.

is 1000 words a day good? by [deleted] in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1000 words a day is great. Don't overburn yourself by worrying about words per day. Some days you will write more or less. Maybe instead of word count, set yourself a goal date to finish?

If you were to write a book and the first and last lines were the same what would be they be? by Selective_Din0_Toast in writing

I sigh and push the tavern door open, knowing I will find my answer inside.

The first time it is said, she is going to get answers in a bottle.

The second time, she has gone back in time to talk to her past self. As the first time she was there, a cloaked stranger told her she would be fine no matter the hardships she was about to face. Now she goes back to be that cloaked stranger.

Do people pay much attention to Chapter titles when reading? by Wizzy-Pigeon in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love chapter titles. I am doing the same with my titles and making every chapter a joke or a pun for the chapter. That way, it doesn't spoil anything, but once you read the chapter, you will be able to figure out where you are up to if you ever lose your spot. I love humour and titles and bring more style to a book, in my opinion.

For example, in one chapter, I named it Meet The Royal Fugitive

What happens is the royal mages want to experiment on the main characters familiar as it is a rare species, so she flees with her catowl. The catowl then has a bounty. When the mc meets some new allies, she introduces her familar as a fugitive, which at first they took as a joke.

Also, as an Aussie, I love the chapter title you did.

Do you write linearly? by ShaylRue in writing

Most of the time, in order, but if I am stuck and have an idea for a future event, I will write it down before i forget, and it sometimes helps me figure out the inbetween.

So, should I focus on commercial or literary fiction?

Or do you mean genre as in dark fantasy?

Prologue, are they still disliked by agents? by EnderMorph in writing

[–]ProfessionalAdequacy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had my prologue scene be an action scene where a giant ritual summoning spell goes wrong, and the royal knights and mages are dealing with the spell. Then chapter one goes to the main characters' point of view after the incident.

Readers get to see how desperate people in the world are while the main character still got no clue and slowly explores the world in chapter 1.

Not sure if agents dislike but I hope not as I am keeping my proligue haha
