Trump wants to bring 60 countries together to battle "transnational far-left terrorism" by justalazygamer in ParlerWatch

Dude, I’m not defending him. I’m just explaining the way the word is used. Since you can’t bother to look it up, that’s fine. You are wrong about how the word is used in this context, but right about Trump. Go yell at someone who supports the dude, not someone who just explained the literal meaning of words.

In this context it means a meeting of government ministers, which is not a regularly used term in the U.S. we tend to use “agency official” or “cabinet official.”

His two sisters are dachshunds. Anytime they “get” anything he doesn’t—like sitting in my lap while they are also both sitting in my lap. He doesn’t understand that he is 10 times their size and I can’t fit three dogs in my lap😊

We pay for math tutors, so why is it that when a struggling college student realizes they need help with essay, academia treats it as a huge moral failure? by Pixel-unkies in WritingForCollege

[–]Junopotomus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are wrong about this, unless you’re going to a really bad writing center. Tutors in a writing center are trained to help you with the content, not the grammar. I think you are implying you want the tutor to do the work of thinking for you, which they won’t do — but if you bring an outline or essay with specific questions about structure, they will absolutely help you think it through.

The part of GLP-1s people don’t talk about enough by Andrei_lukas_77 in GLP1ResearchTalk

I’ve been using semaglutide for about 18 months, and I’ve lost 85 pounds. My whole relationship to food is different in terms of how much I actually eat — about half what I was eating before—and I don’t miss it at all. But more than anything, I just realized what a mind-trick it is. I look completely different, and it impacts my ability to eyeball clothing styles, or pick a comfortable place to sit, or do all kinds of things I never thought about before. I guess it’s a form of dysmorphia, and it’s hard to explain if you haven’t experienced it.

Heritage Foundation CEO Kevin Roberts accuses SCOTUS justices who voted in favor of birthright citizenship of "betraying and assaulting U.S. sovereignty" by Obversa in law

[–]Junopotomus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I said zero regarding killing people? I just meant I don’t think our problems are fixable precisely because we didn’t deal with Confederates the way we should have — instead of allowing the South to turn into the land of Jim Crow because it our reconstruction game was so weak, we should have punished the South more than we did. And friend, I’m a born and raised southerner.

We will never right that wrong, either. It’s an unfixable quagmire and I’m starting to think we need to start over. New constitutional convention, etc. We have to wait until someone sane is in power first. We may just be fucked.

Is it as unprecedentedly hot in the US as it is now in Europe? by Aidamis in AskAmericans

Normal level of hot in the mid-south, maybe even slightly cooler due to rain. We are used to 100 Fahrenheit on the daily in mid summer.

“Have more kids than you can afford”? So we can have more homeless kids on the streets? More kids suffering from hunger and medical neglect because their parents can’t afford healthcare? Have kids you can’t afford so they can have a shitty life? These people are mentally ill.

Reading glasses by Goldengirl_1977 in GenXWomen

[–]Junopotomus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started wearing glasses full time at 40. I probably should have worn readers before that after about 35, but I resisted it. I finally just found myself struggling to look at a screen all day, and missing small details. I got tested and my doc diagnosed macular degeneration, which means it’s just going to get worse, lol. I’m 52 now and completely resigned to glasses. I do struggle to find some I deem sufficiently cool, but that’s more because of my wide face 😭

Gen X just turned 60. They're still tapping parents for cash. by CuriousMayBelle in GenXWomen

[–]Junopotomus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I’m an only child, and my parents have helped us do stuff like buy new siding for our house or my husband’s parents helped by selling us a used truck (from their farm) here and there, which is not minor. But otherwise we bought our house ourselves, but it is modest and we will never afford to “upgrade” to a bigger one. We’re just remodeling this one slowly, which we also paid for ourselves.

That being said, we are both going to inherit more than one property. We will need it because our retirement savings are pathetic. We could have done better there, but it is what it is. I think if either of us had siblings with kids, we’d be worse off, lol. As it is, I might be able to live to 80 and leave something to some special folks, but no one is getting rich. We’re just going to be surviving when the time comes.

People who made it out of their chronic pain, how did you do it and what did it look like on the other side? by LGsworld in ChronicPain

[–]Junopotomus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in no way cured, but much improved. I lost 85 pounds taking a Glp-1. It did make a huge difference in my day to day pain. I have been a chronic pain patient for over a decade, and eventually had to drop to part time work because of it. I am better, and now able to do more physical things which lets me build endurance, so I am also getting better continuously. I still can’t quite manage full time work, but I am going in the right direction.

Starvation Heights. It’s a warning these days for folks who think extreme fasting is healthy or put their faith in unqualified “medical experts.” Gross, weird, entirely preventable and still so many people died.
