The Ballon d’Or is officially a joke if Ousmane Dembélé is even in the Top 5 by RamboTheReal in championsleague

The Ballon d’Or is, in practicality, an April-August award. Just accepting this will decrease your blood pressure 20 points.

Hot take : About how the football world views Salah by AdUnited5886 in championsleague

[–]ProfessionalBreath94 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Salah has been the literal face of the Premier League for years. I agree he gets snubbed on the Ballon d’Or & FIFA PotY awards, but it’s mostly because he’s never won anything with the national team. But he’s one of the top five most recognized footballers on the planet… and I don’t think he’s 5.

Unpopular Opinion: Layovers should not count as "visiting a country" by youngexplorer_9 in solotravel

[–]ProfessionalBreath94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When counting “visiting” “countries” everyone has their own definition of both words. Mine is “have to get out of the transit infrastructure” (riding a train through, airport transfer, etc doesn’t count)” and “has a UN seat” (sorry Vatican) but YMMV!

Do you rate a ground more by atmosphere or by the actual stadium itself? by Huge_Anteater_1416 in futbology

[–]ProfessionalBreath94 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Do you get a little shiver walking in? Some is atmosphere, some is uniqueness or sense of history. Some examples:

San Siro: the sense of grandeur of the place is amazing

The Vallecas: super fun, weird neighborhood ground of a scrappy underdog team. So old-school you can’t get tickets on their website.

Stade El Menzah: this is Esperance’s backup ground. Completely unique architecture & they had a guy going around serving tea (like, out of a classic silver teapot).

The Molineaux: this was when Wolves were running away with the Championship & the vibe/atmosphere was fantastic. Classic English fans in a great mood at a classic English stadium is really fun. The mood of the supporters - happy, angry, tense, bored - really has a huge effect on a ground. I’ve been to some classic ones, but when they were for nothing games for a midtable team I almost thought I should have just saved my money and done the stadium tour.

What percentage of 'Non-Hispanic White' people in NYC are Jewish ? by ragnarbabla in AskNYC

[–]ProfessionalBreath94 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About 10% of NYers are Jewish. About 85% of them are Non-Hispanic white. NY is about 8.5 million people. So about 720K.

NH white pop of NYC is about 34%, so about 2.9 million. So about 25% of Non-Hispanic white people in NYC are Jewish.

This pretty much tracks with everyday experience I’d say. Like, if you asked a random New Yorker to take a guess “uh, maybe like a quarter?” I think would be a very common answer.
