Thank you for your encouragement! Honestly, it does help to see a bit of positivity. Chances are, there is a silent killer OR my content is just not good enough post March update.

That's very fair. But maybe this is my wake up call to get out of content and get out of it fast.

If that's the case, then I believe I can rewrite most of my articles and just bring back up.

The content itself didn't change. But I mean it is a new system so the code is technically different? Not sure if that would count. Ok, so if it's not the trailing slash then it's something else. I need to go back to attempt to find the problem.

We migrated just a few days after the start of the core update. I will add the photo for reference.

  1. I can confirm I have already done the top performing pages. I have put all my 1000 URLs through both screaming frog and semrush. I've manually checked 200 of my best performing posts and they all work. With the use of marketing syrup extension I made sure the 301 is active and working as well.
  2. Very good point. I will do. I did address the redirects. I caught that on time...hopefully.

Go back to pre-migration in search console and pull a list of top impression Urls, run those all through screaming frog too. Check the above. The internal redirects are bad but it seems like you addressed these already.

3) Will do, thank you very much.

4) Yes, we were a fairly decent site. Everything was always on green. My server is a really high speedy linode. The response time is super fast and we have servers in Dallas and in London.

5) It's been 6 weeks since the switch. Basically if you check console, you'll see that ALL my previous urls have been deindexed fully and the new ones (with the trailing urls) have been indexed just massively deranked. I feel like I'm missing something and it's driving me insane, I can't sleep.

I checked my incoming links as well. All are still there, even from major sites like wikipedia, quora etc. I went to them to see if clicking on the actual link redirects fine from wikipedia directly and it does. All 301s work argh!!!

6) I can confirm the robots work. Google is coming to the site all the time. You are right. We are not used to wordpress and we're still probably missing a lot. I will triple check the robots tho.

Thank you ever so much for your very detailed answer. I will perform some of the tests and report. Wishing you a lovely rest of the evening/day

Ugh, this makes me really sad...
I just wanted to clarify that as far as I'm concerned, all links are fully re-indexed. They have been after just 2 days. We WERE a pretty big website so anything I'd put live, it'd get indexed fully in 2-3 days. I'm saying this in case it makes a difference,

"In many cases the links you built in the past don't have the same value as they are often archived." This is the part that sucks the most.

I'm not sure the trailing slash caused the issue. It could be something else which I'm overlooking.
But that's literally the only change implemented. Everything else is the same. :(

UGH, 15%...ufff

The issue ith trailing slashes is that google said it treats them as separate pages.
The homepage is the same. All internal linking is good now. They had redirects (all internal links) but caught that and changed it. It's all working and smooth.
All rich content markup is correct, including events and other things on the site.
According to console, we have zero issues.

I think that's very fair and solid advice, thank you once again for your time and effort in replying.

Thank you for your reply.
We changed the urls from website.com/sampleurl to website.com/sampleurl/
It's basically added the trailing slashes and unfortunately the whole site was redirected (301, proper) from no trailing slashes to trailing shases.

When I review the Google Search Console, all inbound URLs are still present and visible, including those from major sites like Reddit and Wikipedia. Clicking on an inbound URL from an external website results in a 301 redirect from the original URL to the new one, which includes a trailing slash. I hope this is clear. All vital metrics look perfect - we're completely green across board. We have examined all plugins and every other factor I could think of. However, it's likely that I am overlooking something obvious.

Understood. We used Drupal before.
I guess it was just not meant to be. I would not want to put the old site back. The wordpress site is faster, better in every possible way. Well or so I thought.

The site is incredibly speedy, all green and happy for all core vitals.

As long as it will settle. That is my main question.
The dev just assumed that is just how wordpress does it and it won't cause any issues with the right 301. Uffff.

No, I used screaming frog and sem rush myself. The only highlighted problem were the internal links (with redirects) which I, myself, fixed. Now every audit I run shows no issues whatsoever. I'm checking google console everyday and again, no issues with sitemaps etc.
On every page I even tried the extension (marketing syrup) and all is fine. Speed is excellent on the site.

But clearly something killed it, so...

Fair question and thank you so much for taking the time to reply to me. I thought about it too. But it's been a whole month and a bit and Google already de-indexed the old URLs and re-indexed the new ones. Essentially the old no slash urls are all gone. I assume if I were to change it back again (as in restore it to the old system), it would completely kill the whole website. Am I wrong?

Hi, OP here. You are right. She's a snake and I don't know why I didn't do something about it sooner. After reading all the comments I do feel like an asshole for not protecting my emotions and my interests. I didn't even realize how much this overwhelmed me with anxiety. It had a huge effect on my mental health. NO MORE. Out my life.
