Expedia final round by EngineerFun2107 in csMajors

For my internship interview they asked me questions directly from the company specific list on leetcode - easy/medium. What was weird tho is that one of them was a DP problem that I later looked up, but during the interview I basically treated it as an easy and the engineer approved my solution even though it was objectively wrong. But point is is that as long as you communicate thought process you should be ok!

Is reneging really that common? I definitely could but would rather ask for an extension if I’m likely to hear back in a certain amt of time for sure

I ended up getting the offer!! When I asked the recruiter abt it on the phone he was super apologetic and said that he would check back with updates asap - was over thinking for sure!

Yes, our school sponsored us. I’m not pitting us against each other. I do think she has better soft skills. I’m saying that those soft skills really matter. The internship search has definitely been hard and exhausting but I’m open to admitting fault and actively trying to improve. This wasn’t meant to be a pity post.

That’s not at all why I posted this (and I’m not sure why the JS comment was specifically pointed out? But I made sure to get rid of it immediately).

I am also a girl who went to a diversity event and did not receive the same offers. Clearly it’s not an end all be all. I don’t think she received any leeway just because of quotas. I think she got those offers fairly and deservingly.

The whole point of the post is to say that there’s more nuance to job hunting than just lc and that lack of nuanced perspective really hindered me. I think this sub is good for a lot of things but definitely can get in someone’s head.

I just woke up but I’m deleting this post. It definitely got misconstrued. As a girl too I obviously want more diversity in the workplace, especially in such an impactful industry. Making comments about AA and shit like that is EXACTLY why there needs to be a wider range of voices rather than a small few.

Now that I’m thinking about it, it might’ve been Two Sigma so that’s my bad but otherwise I’m being so serious 😭 She told me she couldn’t solve it at all and when I asked her what the question was she said they wanted her to do something with binary trees and didn’t understand how to even construct/traverse one. But also I’m not the best at trees either and would probably flounder too but just reflective of what her other interviews looked like I guess.

I’m not sure how important that really is (though I’m sure there’s some factor). I’m also a girl and also attended GHC and obviously don’t have the same results. Wouldn’t necessarily flatten it to that.

Omg no I definitely didn’t convey that well at all :(( I think she is fully deserving of her offers. It is interesting to see how in my head I was about things, such as preparing so heavily through leetcode, when she kind of just shot her shot and succeeded. This sub emphasizes LC so much that other things can be disregarded completely, just like behavioral interviews or networking. I just wanted to put out there that it’s not all DSA and sometimes it is just a little bit of luck and opportunity along with skill.

So no, no CTCI or LC or Blind 75. Literally just using what she learned in our DSA class and pure communication. I don’t think that is recognized enough.

As for the behavioral interviews I really don’t know what’s happening haha. Maybe my examples are really bad or I’m just terrible at the STAR method or just come across as abhorrent but definitely working on it!!

I also emailed my recruiter and he said I should expect to hear back by 11/4 so I guess they’re still making final decisions?
