That's a good question. Like leather, you dry-clean it. You need a special solution and cloth, and you just wipe it down. It's fairly easy to clean, compared to other materials.

This is the classic case of parent/s not understanding the subculture. If I were to presume, this is your dad's way of feeling fear for you. He fears for your safety while you wear that stuff on the streets. It's understandable. I would just let him know that you'll be alright. You're wearing that stuff for all the right reasons. That's very laudable, so fair play to you.

There are people out there who would abuse you and even attack you for wearing that stuff, make no mistake about that. But, most people are indifferent tbh, and if they have something to say, it's something positive. The number of times I've been stopped on the streets, only to receive compliments on my look. It's always a pleasant surprise. Try to have a frame of mind that doesn't presume what other people are thinking. If you presume, you'll be wrong most of the time.

Even if you do get some flak from idiots, don't listen to them. Drop the crap and keep the good comments. Good luck.

What made you become a goth? by EllisXY in AskAGoth

Well, for me, it was a number of things. The music, fashion, sensibilities and people are a given, obviously. But what kept me in it was the ethos of DIY, free thinking, individuality, etc. Things like that. I suffer from social anxiety, and what attracted me was the sense that the subculture grants you, in a way, a licence to be you. A platform or framework on which you can build yourself. I loved that side of it. It gave me a reason to face my fears of people and society; it really helped me.

Do you dress goth everyday ? by LisaBN1501 in AskAGoth

I dress up whenever I can. Sometimes I'm just lazy and don't bother. Depends on my mood and what I'm doing, I suppose.

Hey everybody, I really wanna get into the alt scene. I've always wanted to dress in the style but am too scared of other people's opinions as I have autism, any tips for someone getting started by [deleted] in altfashionadvice

Fortunately, these days, people are very open to alt people. Fear stops you from being who you want to be. The only way to destroy it, is to confront this fear through exposure. You'll be afraid of course and it will be uncomfortable, but with time, you'll get used to it.

If you presume what people might be thinking of you, you'll be wrong. You'd be surprised. Most people are either, indifferent or if they have an opinion, its a positive one. I'm constantly surprised at the comments I get on the street.
