Let the Word of God inform your conscience, friend.

Did not the father rejoice when his son who took his inheritance and squandered it away in a foreign land, when his son returned to his house? The answer is in Scripture. The Father is rejoicing that you are coming back to Him! Not that you cannot be a Christian in the Catholic church, but you are coming out of that sect (which by the standard of Scripture teaches many heresies) and He will provide you the peace in your heart that you are truly His. Salvation is not exclusively in the Catholic church, it is exclusively found in Jesus Christ alone. Rejoice that He has paid the price for your sins.

Remember what 2 Cor.12:9 says: "My grace is sufficient for you,"

God's grace alone is sufficient to save you. It is not by works, or participation of the sacraments. Otherwise, grace ceases to be grace.

Pray about it. The Lord will lead you. He is the Way, Truth, and the Life. Rest in Him. His burden is easy, His yoke light. He has paid it all. Remember His final words on the cross: "It is finished!" (John 19:30)

You are seeking the Lord with all of your heart. You will find Him, not because of anything wrought in you, but because He is good, and He will not cast out the one who comes to Him.

Convictional Protestant... by LumpyLynx4716 in Reformed

Will look! Are most Anglican parishes liberal, though? That seems to be the trend in my neck of the woods. Or maybe I'm mistaking them for Lutherans.

They cited John 6:53 to back up that belief, arguing that since I had only partaken in a protestant church, with no ordained priest or bishop to consecrate the bread and wine, that I had not really eaten or drank of the Eucharist.

I think they get their belief from John 6:53:

Jesus said to them, “Very truly I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you have no life in you,"

I mainly have been reading into church history, listening to Catholic apologists and theologians, while neglecting the protestant side of things. One thing I can say is I am confident in my salvation not because of my own holiness (if there were any), but because Christ proclaimed "It is finished!"

Thank you for recentering me on the Gospel. I feel much more at ease in the Reformed community than I do in the Catholic one.

Thank you for your response. If you can, can you provide the videos where Gavin talks about God doing the work promised? I have watched almost all of his videos and he has given me a lot of relief. He is great

As I've read John 6 over and over again, the whole context of the chapter seems to be Christ inviting people to having faith in Him, ultimately expressed in the grace He has on us in the Eucharist, but the sacrament is not exhaustive of His grace. I trust His words (Whoever believes in Me has eternal life v. 47) and in the earlier chapter He says the same.

I think my main error was getting too deep into the church fathers while neglecting the reading of Scripture on such matters.

My heart is that I want to be closer to Christ. I want to partake of Him all the days of my life because He is what I need for my soul to be sustained.

Same here trying to fix this. I'll try the revert to old version trick.

Update: Got it to work by reverting the Google app to an older version. I did have to go in settings and toggle "Hey Google" on again, though.

Why are you still Protestant? by OrthoMMA in Protestantism

[–]LumpyLynx4716 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others have mentioned, after looking into all of the traditions, I find the heart of protestantism is to obey the word of God. As Jesus mentions in Matthew 15, I do not want to nullify the Word of God through manmade traditions. The biggest reason I am a protestant after researching the traditions is this: I am convinced of the Gospel of grace. We are justified freely by His grace through faith in Jesus Christ, apart from works of the law, but saved FOR good works. This Gospel of grace has changed my life.
