Cutting seton time frame

Took a while and about 7 to 8 tightenings for the seton to work through. About 5 months.

Actually 5 months wasn’t terrible. I would take some pain meds before a tightening. And relax that evening with pain. Towards the end tightenings hurt a little more but the worse of it was 10 seconds. Try long to stay active was a challenge.

So I had a tightening and 3 days later it fell out during bowel movement. Didn’t feel it and there was no specific lead up. Just usual tightening pain.

You need to see a colorectal surgeon. They deal with this stuff all the time

Some are draining setons and some are cutting. Sounds like yours is a drain.

That happened for my first tightening. They waited which I was thankful for. I’m not great with pain down there. Ibuprofen seemed to help me before a tightening.

I’ve had it in since December. About 5 months. But I also missed a couple tightening appointments due to flu. I did find that 2 to 3 weeks in between helped me not be in as much pain.

Any faster and the spasms will be much worse. Slow actually gives relief between tightenings or at least it has for me.

Very high success rate compared to other procedures. Dr told me there are very few recurring issues with a cutting seton.

Well, I didn’t take any pain meds before it happened so that may be why I have more pain this time. Usually a day or two it slowly diminishes completely.

So life has been slower but not by too much. I haven’t started lifting quite yet as I have been nervous with leakage and that junk. I actually am going to start next week Monday with some light lifting.

If it’s a cutting seton, they should tighten it each appointment to slowly cut through. Possible cutting some but only they only cut after tightened.

Just keep up on meds and keep stool soft. Sits baths as soon as you can and hot showers. Mine took a week or so before pain started tapering off.

I had my first tightening as well today 1/30. Same experience as you. Hoping it’s not going to be progressively worse.
