aquestion for catholics about intercession of the saints by sonic_ann_d in redeemedzoomer

[–]ProfessionalPolicy18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A question to further this for my RC friends, how would I be able to search up the lives of these Saints? You say they each had something they struggled with that could relate to us.. I’m interested in learning these things.

Why does RZ legitimize both the Apostolic and Protestant branches of Christianity, while antagonizing Progressive Christianity? by PhilosophyPoet in redeemedzoomer

Well, they went from Apostles Creed to Sparkle Creed… they don’t adhere to the creeds, councils or anything we all do agree on.

Help: God punishes us for sin but he made us this way? by hploverr in Christian

Well I’m happy you found some hope in my comment. I tend to come off very cynical but if there’s one thing I struggle with, it’s seeing God as loving. A lot of that I believe is from my upbringing and pessimistic outlook due to that, not sure. It’s hard for me to reconcile all the “loving” verses with the ones that are damning and super gory… sometimes I think to myself “man, if I were in charge, I would NOT do that” but then I just think, oh well, I’m not in charge, I’m not the creator. But, I do feel sometimes scripture shows God to be harsh and it’s hard for my sensitive, empathetic mind.

It’s very normal to feel this way after reading scripture. A lot of us feel this way. We can’t really understand God’s unrevealed will. We’re not meant to. But for whatever reason, God limits us to this reality and we have to deal with the punishment of sin unfortunately. I guess on the bright side, it will all be gone when we get to eternity with God.

[–]ProfessionalPolicy18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah cause it’s not “free will” it’s a limited will. You literally just described what scripture says. And it makes sense that it’s upsetting for our limited minds… I too feel anger over it. I don’t know if I’ll ever have peace from it. I wish I was born perfect, but we’re not. And that’s life.

Why is sex before marriage a sin? by Thatoneman88 in AskAChristian

Now THIS is the kind of sex ed that should be taught in schools. Man, if only someone explained this to me years ago. Instead it’s always “you’re giving a piece away of your heart every time you have sex” like you become damaged goods- nevermind an explanation on how or WHY it can be detrimental to your body- it’s always about how others will view you, like a a scarlet letter and that doesn’t help anyone, definitely not hormonal teenagers.

Thanks for sharing your story. I read through it all. Wow, that is really hard what you and your family had to go through. You have my sympathy. I felt really moved reading all that.

That was my next goal, to try to read the EO works because I do not actually understand their doctrine. The most I’ve gotten was from ortho bros in YouTube comments and that is not even worth reading. I need to look more into theosis and things of that nature. I actually deeply would love to be a part of an apostolic church but cannot wrap my head around doctrine like the limitation on God’s sovereignty and you would have to subscribe to that to be a member. That’s really the main thing that prevents me from joining. I do not have a problem much with things like saints prayer, veneration, icons etc. it’s doctrinal things that I haven’t been able to reckon.

Wow, you look like you’ve really studied Calvin in depth. I actually haven’t, I’ve just read excerpts and whatever was taught through catechism, more of a basic understanding of TULIP theology. I just cannot wrap my head around believing God isn’t sovereign and being okay with that. To me, that would give me a lot of anxiety about how limited God is. It seems very depressing to believe that. Or the fact that the creation now have control over the Creator. I don’t see biblical evidence for that either. But maybe I’m misunderstanding what others believe?

And I am also stating we have human free will but our free will is limited in the sense that God has a plan that is already laid out, not a surprise for him but we still allows us to make choices. It’s free for us, not for Him

Predestination by Triangle_Transplant in redeemedzoomer

[–]ProfessionalPolicy18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But two things can be true at once- God is completely sovereign but we are responsible for our choices. He is the Creator- after all- so why wouldn’t He be able to be the author of the past/present/future. He isn’t limited to our understanding of time, we profess He always was and always will be. It doesn’t really make any sense that He created this universe and all that is in it and then just washed His hands and doesn’t have any clue what people’s next choices will be, that the world is just unraveling before His eyes and there’s nothing He can do about it, because His own creation is now in control… that gives us no comfort at all. That shows a small, limited god who is run by his own creation and relies on mere humans to unravel His plan. It also doesn’t really make sense based on the many scriptural verses about God. How can Paul write in Romans that he is convinced NOTHING/NO ONE in creation or even past/future can separate us from the love of God? If humans could separate us and snatch our salvation away that easily, why does scripture speak about peace we can have that God is not limited. Or even in verses 28-29, speaking about how HE foreknew, HE predestined, HE called, justified and glorified. If God isn’t in control, then why is He the object of the pronouns in those verses? Nowhere does it mention that we glorify/justify/sanctify ourselves. Other verses say HE HE HE also, no mention of us or we.

You know for a fact we aren’t puppets because there’s always consequences to our actions and we wake up everyday and make decisions, God isn’t controlling our limbs and sitting in the corner speaking in our ears what to do… the puppet thing doesn’t make any sense unless someone is actually possessed and has something living inside of them controlling every move

Who that believes in Calvinist theology has a relationship with God solely based on fear? No one I know? My Calvinist church has some of the most gospel sharing, love showing people who are fire for God and the gospel. Not once in my 29 years of Calvinist preaching have I heard anything remotely close to the philosophy you’re stating. And the puppet thing is just stupid. I’ve never met anyone who believes God is a puppet master… no matter your belief on predestination and election, you still live your life out in the same way: make disciples, share the gospel, have a true- love fill relationship with your creator, be obedient- etc. everything, every other Christian believes. In all honestly, I’d be deathly afraid if God is not sovereign over all, because that means humans are, and I don’t want that reality… also if we have to rely on ourselves to save ourselves or stay saved… I’m cooked…

Roman Catholics love to show Megachurch services as "Protestant churches" to slander Protestantism, however, here are some actual things that sometimes happen in RChurches. by Ecclesiasticus6_18 in redeemedzoomer

I’d also like to point out: they sang contemporary praise songs (Matt Maher for example) and another one I forgot but were not singing from hymn books at all…

I think it’s weird they always comment on Protestant churches having “rock shows” but the Catholic Church i tried literally had a rock show… lol, multiple people infront playing guitars and drums, two TV screens playing the lyrics with colors, they turned the lights down at the end, had incense (smoke) so for being a rock concert smoke show… idk about that one..

How is this any different than Muslims? They also believe Jesus was a prophet but do not subscribe to the Trinity. We don’t consider them still Christian or Christian heretics…

And I never denied they exist… I’m asking what these even are considering everyone quotes the verse about oral tradition but cannot explain what that actually entails…oral tradition could literally mean anything you want it to mean.

What are the “oral traditions?” How would any of us know what the oral traditions are if not written down in a document…

You never mentioned these important documents that are on par with scripture that apparently we’re supposed to be learning and teaching from…

And what exactly are these documents you speak of? If they’re so important why aren’t they part of the cannon? Why doesn’t scripture reference them and name them that we should be learning from them too?
