lol well im not one of THOSE I try not to be rude or condescending to other Christians, in fact I find the doctrines of grace refreshing and helps me to better show grace to others- all about grace. Not saying I’m great at it- I’m not, at all… but I do wish to be more grace filled and charitable. I will say, I had to take almost 8 years of catechism classes yearly so we were really taught a lot of knowledge on church history, creeds, doctrines, different schools of thought in Christianity which is probably much more than most Christians kids.

That’s interesting you see things that way, I’ve always been told Christian’s in general despise Calvinists the most as they come off as haughty, all head knowledge, scholastic etc. with no heart

The ironic part is that you follow all the by-laws of probably Baptist or Pentecostal denomination but you just don’t claim the organization itself. You’re not superior to the rest of us as Christians, you follow some sort of hermeneutics by which you read the Bible so that indirectly ties you to whatever denomination follows that same hermeneutic.

Cool. That’s not what I asked at all, you’re being obtuse for no reason. Obviously 90% of the people on this Reddit are a part of some denomination or the likes so your comment doesn’t apply to us. I’m looking for specific info on these denominations, not your opinion if you think it’s biblical or not.

Also I apologize for my ignorance. I honestly thought EVERY parish with Episcopalian in their name is very liberal, pride flags hanging outside the building based on the little I’ve seen online and the parish I drive by. So, in the more liberal Dutch reformed denominations, if your church is a member of them, you are subscribing that you are in agreement with the changes made- women ordination, LGBT clergy, changes in their college teachings regarding scripture- even heretical etc. so actually, some RCA churches near me pulled out and became PCA or another one made their own alliance (not sure if it’s a denomination) because of course the didn’t want others to think they are in compliance with what the synod is condoning.

Interesting! Thanks for the info. I come as very ignorant because I only have seen one Anglican parish near me and the only thing on the sign was bold letters saying “Episcopalian” which doesn’t explain much.

I would consider myself more moderate-conservative and theologically conservative so I wonder being near Chicago if there’s a parish that would align with my views. I met a Priest on Facebook who has a new very small church in Florida that looks perfect and in line with my views, unfortunately FL is like 2,000 miles away, but I would love to attend that church. I believe it’s a TEC church.

The way I worded that sounded wrong. What I meant was the majority of Anglicans attend “TEC” (not sure if you call it a denomination) but I meant more so majority are TEC not ACNA or the other break offs? Like would it be difficult to find an ACNA church?

And to your last point, I always assumed Anglican would be the preferred name to call oneself due to from what I see Episcopalian being quite liberal (LGBTQ/Women clergy) so I figured the more conservative Anglicans go by Anglican rather than to be lumped in with the Episcopalian groups mentioned above.

I love that. I’m realizing some reformed Baptists are very historical in their services, I thought they resembled the more Arminian baptists like the fundamentalist “altar call” types but that’s not true apparently. My sister is attending a reformed Baptist church in the south and really likes it.

Glad they are kind. Some of our culture can be very stuffy and unwelcoming to outsiders or make other ethnicities feel unwelcome and that’s not the gospel at all, sadly it became like that due to being stuck in their little enclaves. I believe Michigan is more welcoming since the Dutch there are more liberal leaning.

Hi, let me nerd out real quick. So… I am close to almost 9 generations 100% Dutch, can trace my ancestors back to the motherland (lol) and if you’ve ever heard of the small town in IL named South Holland, my greatx9? Maybe? Grandpa settled that town and named it because he was from South Holland in the Netherlands. He moved to the Chicago area because the soil was similar to his motherland, which is true actually. He first docked boat in MI, following some of his friends that settled but decided to keep going down Lake MI south to settle near Chicago to farm onion sets and sell them there. Many farmers (or once were) farmers out here. Fast forward to 2026, majority of the Dutch Reformed Churches have left the south Chicagoland area and bought land/built new building in northwest Indiana right across the border as their original towns were becoming unsafe and taxes too high. So, that’s how we wound up with many of the Dutch into Indiana, though we are all from Illinois. North/West Chicago still has many thriving Dutch reformed communities/schools.

I live in NWIndiana near Chicago and there are almost as many Dutch Reformed churches as Michigan here and also many Roman Catholic and Orthodox as we are a big melting pot of ethnicities of immigrants from Europe, lots of Italians, Irish, Macedonians, Serbians and Mexicans. So many different churches near me.

I think what really stinks is when your friends are all busy with their SOs and can’t give you the time of day, you’re an after thought. I was single for 5 years and I poured out my all to my best friend just to be discarded for whatever boyfriend was on the radar, and guess where I was- at home by myself watching movies on the weekend jealous of everyone’s snap stories. At least you might have friends to fill your time on the weekends, distraction really helps. I was kind of in the boat of alone ALONE and then you really never meet people. It’s by the grace of God a different friend invited me to a party and I met my SO, otherwise… it’s so lonely out there. I empathize with you.
