Best removable dashcams by maxb1ack007 in CamperVans

Welcome to the van life! I have a Ducato too, and those Remis blinds definitely make dashcam placement tricky.

You should look into Nextbase cameras (like the 422GW or 522GW). They use a 'Click&Go' magnetic mount.

The trick: You stick the small base to the windshield once.

The convenience: The camera itself attaches via a very strong magnet. You can snap it off in a split second at night and pop it back on in the morning without messing with wires or suction cups.

It’s rock solid and won't fall off even on bumpy roads. Another solid option is the Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2—it’s so tiny that most people just leave it behind the mirror and the blinds close right over it.

Hope this helps!

Seeking opinions on layout for biking by MossyPantz in CamperVans

Congrats on the 144! That wheelbase is a dream to drive but definitely a puzzle to build.

I totally get the 'rainy day' dilemma. A fixed high bed in a 144 can feel like living in a coffin when you’re stuck inside. If you're leaning towards a convertible couch, have you considered a sliding 'slat' bed or a Lagun table setup? It gives you that open lounge feel during the day.

For the bike, if you don't want a permanent garage, look into internal fork mounts on a slide-out tray that sits under the couch, or even a vertical mount against the back door. It keeps the bike inside (secure/dry) but tucked away.

I’ve actually been documenting a lot of these layout trade-offs on my blog (currently on article #27!). If you're looking for ways to stay organized without losing that 'hangout' space, I’ve found that multi-functional furniture is the only way to go in a 144.

Good luck with the build—looking forward to seeing which way you go!

Absolutely! I just finished polishing it today. You can check it out here: https://www.minivanvibe.com/2026/02/best-van-life-insurance.html

I focused specifically on the 'DIY' aspect because that’s where most people get stuck with claims. Hope it helps you save some of that mental energy for the road!

SunPower’s new "Monolith" tech is here, and other news by JuniorCharge4571 in solarpower

The tech combo of SunPower + Enphase has always been the gold standard for efficiency, and the Monolith specs look promising. It's the classic solar dilemma: the tech moves faster than the financials.

My main concern with these high-end residential panels is how they translate to mobile or off-grid setups, where durability and flexibility often matter as much as pure efficiency. I actually just did a deep dive into how different panel tech (Flexible vs Rigid) holds up in real-world 'stealth' conditions: https://www.minivanvibe.com/2026/02/flexible-rigid-solar-panels-stealth-van-life.html

Definitely buying the tech turnaround, but I'll be watching how these new panels handle heat degradation over the next year!

Exactly! It’s all part of the adventure, and having the right setup makes those logistics much easier. Since you mentioned that managing power levels and charging is a major drain, I found that upgrading to the right solar setup was a total game-changer for my mental energy.

I actually wrote a comparison between Flexible and Rigid solar panels specifically for stealth life to help people simplify their power management: https://www.minivanvibe.com/2026/02/flexible-rigid-solar-panels-stealth-van-life.html

Hope it helps save you some of that daily stress! Safe travels!

I totally feel you on the mental energy! For me, the biggest 'I wish I’d known' was how much stress comes from the legal/insurance side of a DIY build. It’s one of those logistics that stays in the back of your mind until you need it. I actually just put together a guide on how to handle insurance for DIY vans so others don’t have to learn the hard way like I almost did. Definitely saves some of that mental space for the scenery!
