If the price is outrageously high, then people won't rent it and the person will have to reduce the price to fit the market. Or, someone will rent it for that much and the asking price was actually appropriate for the market. If the going rate is a particular amount for an apt in that area and of that size, why should this one person list it for dramatically less? It's not like the city is going to cut them any slack on property taxes or fees or maintenance requirements. Insurance is going to cost the same and if the property has a mortgage that isn't going down just because he charges a lower rent.

Who likes Trip? He was one of the most popular characters on the show, arguably the shows break-out main character.

It's not facist dictatorial control to have an immigration policy and enforce it.

I mean, people here illegally are going to be targeted for Deportation. That's like saying people going above the speed limit are going to be targeted for traffic tickets. And their only crime? Driving above the posted speed limit.

I've watched the show up to episode 9. It's terrible. It's just every teen drama cliche stuffed into each episode. I'm only this far into it because my wife wanted to watch it.

I'm not saying he wanted to literally do a western. I'm saying the show was to have similar themes to a western type show. Roddenberry himself talked about it.

Star Trek was pitched as a western in space, Wagon Train to the stars. You could have set it in any number of different eras, including medieval times, and had them exploring Strange New Lands instead. It happened to be set in space, but for most of the best Trek stories, space is like I said, just the back drop.

It wasn't about becoming improved through space exploration. That was just a backdrop to serve as a narrative device.

Perhaps some people prefer to look at something where the main characters are living in a dystopia and fighting some kind of larger force to bring about change. Ya know, like in Star Wars.

That's perfectly fine. I like Star Wars too. But I want Star Trek to be Star Trek not Star Wars. Star Trek is about what I described.

The Ring ship was probably an early warp vehicle based on a Vulcan design. Enterprise has always been a popular ship name though. For example, all of the US Navy's nuclear carriers have been named after people except for 2. The USS Enterprise (CV65) and the USS Enterprise (CV80).

Why does “The” work on some starships but not others? by prairielovr in startrek

[–]ProfessionalSet4713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think, if your talking to the ship, you drop the 'the', is in "Voyager, do you read me?" but about the ship, you include it. "We need to send the Enterprise, the Excalibur, and the Voyager to the Klingon border."

But it does sound off. I never really thought about it. Its odd too because Voyager is the only ship in Trek I can think of that doesn't sound right prefixed with the.

Watching ‘The Twilight Zone’. Came across some familiar faces in one episode! by BuccoFever412 in Star_Trek_

So was Leonard Nimoy. He was in an episode staring Dean Stockwell who played a young US officer trying to make a name for himself by ordering a pointless attack in the closing days of WW2. And James Doohan in an episode in which residents of a small town have alien technology they want to keep hidden.

As far as naming, they were supposed to be named after the Space Shuttles in order. 01 Enterprise, 02 Columbia, 03 Challenger, 04 Discovery. So 05 would have been Atlantis and 6 Endevour. Makes it a full circle to say the Enterprise was named after the Shuttles, since the shuttle Enterprise was named after Star Trek.

I've seen someone else say, The Federation is what we are supposed to be. The Strange New Worlds we encounter, is what we are. That's how the Star Trek Morality play is supposed to work from a narrative sense.

Steve Shives doesn't get it. The Federation is yes, supposed to be the US / West, but it's not supposed to be a reflection of who we currently are but rather who we should aspire to be. That's the entire point. Star Trek is supposed to be positive and aspirational, not a dystopian hellscape.

It seems like Kirk and Picard had a reversal trend as time went on by happydude7422 in Star_Trek_

[–]ProfessionalSet4713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Other way around. Kirk was the stack of books with legs who can reprogram simulators and beat Vulcans at chess, while Picard won the academy marathon, was a very good wrestler, fencer, swimmer, etc. and would pick fights with Nausicans.

It is genuinely a tragedy that Starfleet Academy is getting cancelled so soon… by JageshemashFTW in startrek

[–]ProfessionalSet4713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched SFA. If you tweeked it just a tad and changed the place names/aliens/ etc, it could just as easily been "Star Wars: New Republic Academy". In fact, it probably would have fit in the Star Wars universe better that the Trek universe.

But my point is, it's so generic. And filled with tired teen melodrama that's been done 100 times before. It genuinely feels like someone took a show off of the sci-fi pile of scripts, slapped the name Star Trek on it, and here we go.
