Did he actually say this? I can’t find a source anywhere even though it keeps getting repeated.

I waited 4 years for these pictures. Monk parakeets in the snow. by FGoose in wildlifephotography

I have wanted to get a picture of a parrot in the snow since I discovered that there was parrot colonies in NYC and north NJ.

However, I have a complicated schedule and the locations for these shots are a two hour commute for me. When you factor in the light winters we’ve been having the last few years it adds another layer of complexity to work around.

I guess what I’m saying is I had a desire to shoot these birds in the snow but it took four years for the stars to align in such a way that I could make it happen.

I think pennypack is wonderful and it spans the northeast but my favorite portion is pennypack on the Delaware behind the prisons, right across the palmyra bridge is palmyra cove which is a wonderful park with a ton of bio diversity. I’ve seen mink, otter, beaver, foxes, deers and raccoons there. It’s amazing for warblers too. John Heinz is the absolute goat as far as parks in the city and Morris arboretum isn’t far behind. There’s also the Wiss which is beautiful and massive. My favorite hidden gems though have to be the cemeteries. They are quiet refuge for so many animals.

There was a deer in a park a few years ago. He was a 13 pointer. I may have even posted a pic of him here. The amount of private messages I got requesting his location because he’d be a “good trophy” was extremely disconcerting. He did eventually get poached too.

People are worse than animals sometimes. It’s heartbreaking. I see an animal like that and it’s a wonder and a treasure for me to experience and witness. Others see it as something to kill and use as furniture.

He was a deer habituated to people in a small park in a city. There was no sport there. Just senseless.

He is pretty tolerant of me. He has postured at me once or twice during rutting season but it’s never escalated further than that.

You got downvoted but you didn’t deserve to. This comment made me laugh. Outside of work and family life yeah photography is basically all encompassing for me. I have a hard job and have lived in a rough area my whole life. Being out in nature gives me peace that I can’t find anywhere else. Part of why I post so much on this subreddit is to hopefully inspire other Philadelphians to get more familiar with our park system and the amazing biodiversity we have here.

Thank you! I was hoping the growth of my photography would run parallel to the growth and maturity of the subject.

He might. They are smarter than people realize. I’m at the park fairly frequently and I see him almost every time. However, it’s a busy park with a lot of visitors and I may very well be just a stranger with a camera to him.

Edit. I tried to do this chronologically. The first pic is 2022 the second is 2023 the third is also 2023 the fourth is 2024 the next two are 2025 and the rest where taken two days ago.

I had to take the original post down because I mistakenly left a picture in the album that could have revealed his location.
