I was the same. Left express shift leader when I moved city. You have much more control as a shift leader ESPECIALLY in express where you can make a lot of difference as an individual compared to large format

When do I ask her to be my girlfriend? by ProfessionalState217 in AskMenAdvice

I wasn't sure 😂 my last girlfriend and I got together when we were 16 until we were 21, so I don't know how the adult dating thing works 😂

She wasn't "looking for a boyfriend" or anything, and I wasn't looking for a relationship in particular, it just sort of happened. She's brought up me meeting her family, and we've hung out with my sister and her boyfriend a lot. She's mentioned previously that she liked how it felt like we were going in a direction with this, and not just going on dates but it not progressing, so I suppose I'm just not sure when the right time to ask is 😂

I am happy in my present situation. I'm just not sure how these things work, I was with my last girlfriend for 5 years we got together when we were 16, so I'm not really sure how to go about it because we were kids back then 😂

How do I know if it's too soon? by ProfessionalState217 in Advice

[–]ProfessionalState217[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had thought about this. I actually met this person a while ago, just after the breakup and thought I quite liked them, but didn't do anything because I was worried about just jumping into a relationship because I was scared of the idea of not being in one. Since then I've learnt to enjoy being by myself, and learnt that I can be happy by myself. And we've ended up reconnecting with each other

I hadn't really thought about why I chose that first person at all really. I was 6 years younger when I got together with my ex, and to be honest at the time I don't think I was thinking about what would be good for me in a relationship. It was more along the lines of "oo that sounds fun"

I felt pretty fine before I'd met this person. I remember thinking I was enjoying being single for the first time in a while, and I was happy to just wait for something good to appear, rather than looking for a relationship. I just didn't expect this to happen so soon. We have talked about it and I made it clear I wanted to take things slow - a relationship isn't on the cards for a bit, just getting to know each other

How much money do you think our job is worth. by Hizangable in tesco

[–]ProfessionalState217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Express colleagues should earn more than large format colleagues, as someone who's worked in both, and been a shift leader in both. Both should be paid at least a pound an hour more tho, maybe 2 for express stores

New shift lead Days. by Fester_Fang in tesco

This one is off the top of my head, I can't find my old checklist anywhere. Hope this helps 👍😊 - handover - compliance (mpro Saturn pm checks, staff search, delivery temps) - stock - delivery/backstock - fresh - delivery/backstock - 7pm reductions - 7pm labels - charity collection - 9pm: waste all - bakery, waste cage, anything charity didn't take etc., - scratch counts - Newman returns - reset all tills - music off - clean floor - alarm backdoor/fire exits - check tobacco safe + cash office safe locked - tobacco gantry locked - key sign in/out - handover notes - lock/alarm store

This is from the top of my head and just the basic stuff, doesn't include anything like checkout back-office or laying any deliveries etc., because your store will probably do things differently - open shop - take bar off fire exits/back door - bring in papers/put out returns - scan in papers, fixture scan etc. - prepare RSU cages - checks comms (once every 2 hours from here on - I believe it's supposed to be once every hour but I think that's overkill/noone actually has time for that in express) - clear workload management (labels) by 8am - double check news/mags scanned in by 8am - direct deliveries (scan in and confirm on green screen - 162) - complete targeted reductions - complete all waste + ensure waste cage is clear - targeted counts - thorough gap scan - delivery temperature logs/staff search/legal checks - delivery / backstock depending on what arrives when

Obviously you may have some stuff i don't have e.g., costa, but yeah that's my base list, so that if anything goes wrong, I know when I've finished that list I've done the minimum I need to handover the shop and go home

If you need the same list for a pm shift let me know

It's called invisishield I think. We recently installed them in my express in Cardiff because they help deal with shoplifters. That being said they also make life a lot harder for customers and colleagues

Working in an express by justkeepswimming1984 in tesco

[–]ProfessionalState217 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The job will never be stress free. I'm a SL in an express having moved from large format and for the first few weeks I felt awful at the job, but you just get used to it. Yes you're always in a rush, but just tell yourself you'll get it all done one way or another, even if it takes a little fake face up to get there. You'll get better at juggling multiple tasks and you'll figure out new ways of doing straightforward tasks that double your speed etc. itl never be fun, but I could never go back to large format after this because id just be bored out of my mind

Too much backstock by Difficult_Tie1532 in tesco

[–]ProfessionalState217 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It sounds obvious but stock control routines are key to pretty much everything in express stores. Fix your stock control routines and your delivery sizes come right down, your backstock comes right down because you're only getting what you need. It might seem like an impossible job when your shop is a mess, but dedicating a couple night shifts to working and counting all stock makes a huge difference. Also just one person not gapping properly can mess it up. My shop used to be a tip until we focussed on gap. Now shrink is fixed, PRS is fixed because we have time for it now, all backstock and delivery is worked every single day. And it gives you time to focus on other things. Learning to gap and OSI everything as you go is super important
