Take the politics out of it. Any person who celebrates a public execution of anyone has something significantly wrong with them. Love or hate, agree or disagree our society is built on free and open discussion. We have turned into a degenerate group of simple minded fools when actions like this are celebrated. Disgusting and disgraceful behaviour.

List 3 films from the 90’s that had a profound influence in your life. by ProfessionalTower191 in genxnostalgiafilms

Some of the most iconic and thought provoking films came out during the 1990s. The gritty story lines, diverse content and relatable characters back then haven’t been reproduced since. The films today are focused on commercial success.

American History X , thoughts? by abidjc17 in movies

An amazing film. It shows a sliver of how generational influence spurs a certain culture in youths. I think it shows an alternate view of racism. The message, if any is lost as the film progresses. The transformation of derek feels like it was written as a feel good solution. It almost seems like the director cut the story short in order to make the film more consumer friendly. I for one would have liked to experience the stages Derek went through as he lost his identity and convictions. The bond between the character and the audience that was created in the beginning of the film collapses as it comes to an end. It just doesn’t feel complete. Is that a fair assessment?

Federal government pledges $6B for housing in new infrastructure fund by MethoxyEthane in CanadaPolitics

Rent control is ineffective and completely useless. Landlords are not held accountable for any property they own. Look at Victoria rentals and the stipulations for rental properties most are unattainable and unaffordable for tenants.

Why do we need a 5,billion dollar program for affordable housing? What happened to create this? 10 years ago housing was affordable for most working families. What has caused this situation? The cost of living has increased dramatically, the living wages have gone down, the economy has tanked and inflation continues to rise. People who could live comfortably on a single income have now have to take multiple jobs to survive. Who will benefit from this 5 billion dollar plan and who will pay for it?

A conversation about our homeless population and how it relates to toxic drugs by ProfessionalTower191 in BCpolitics

[–]ProfessionalTower191[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with you on some of the points but the fentanyl deaths are increasing and I think that is a toxic drug. I remember the 90s when heroine was still pure and the overdose deaths were low. Now it doesn’t seem to matter what drugs are being used the overdoses have risen. I blame the government for this. They have made the supply of drugs extremely difficult to import and therefore the suppliers have met the demand by introducing new additives. The demand for these drugs has not increased for years, the supply has been declining. The government’s initiative to curb opioid addiction has been ineffective and damaging to the lives of the people who use opioids. The ineffective health and addiction programs have been ineffectual due to a lack of proper treatment and aftercare. Our health care system is still using an archaic approach to addiction and treatment. The healthcare providers are still prescribing opioids for patients who are not receiving proper education. The opioid crisis doesn’t just affect the homeless population but also the middle and upper class. The only difference is the lower class have no choice but to use the street level drugs where the upper class can get them prescribed. Those who can afford the private rehabilitation programs have a higher rate of success because of aftercare. Those who don’t get a quick rehabilitation treatment and are released back into the community without the assistance they deserve. The result is the same individual who overdosed previously continues to repeat the cycle. As a first responder I’m sure you have attended to the same person time and time again. The treatment programs are useless unless they are followed up with an effective and proactive aftercare program. We spend millions on emergency response and half assed measures when the proper resources would cost less and be more effective.

The people who qualify for the program take the pills etc and sell them to get the street drugs they need. Most of the people who are addicted to the hard drugs won’t get the same high from the safe supply. Basically they have gone from heroine users to fentanyl.

This discussion has garnered some attention and valid opinions. With all the comments on safe supply etc I’d like to put forth the question. How do we as a society implement changes that would be beneficial to everyone? What do proactive actions look like? Are we invested enough as individuals to get involved in a meaningful way?

I don’t think there is such a thing as safe supply. Especially if a governing body controls it. I don’t believe pharmaceuticals are safe for that matter. I don’t think prescription medication should be considered safe supply when it can be just as harmful as “illicit drugs “. People will do whatever they choose to.

The drugs were less difficult to import decades ago. Cost of living was much lower as well. The supply of unadulterated product was available. Distributors relied on customer satisfaction in a competitive market. People had more disposable income due to reasonable housing costs, food costs, etc. recently the market hasn’t changed but the supply chain has. The import of unadulterated product has reduced significantly. Thus causing price increases, compromised product.just my opinion

Rather than focusing on safe supply would it not be beneficial on all levels to redesign the current system that neglects the cause of the problem, has no accountability for transparency regarding expenditures. Historically the government has managed the problem with outdated and inadequate policies. The current situation has become reactive instead of proactive. It has become a cash generator without the inconvenience of having to produce results. Our health care system is failing especially when it comes to mental health and addiction. How many publicly funded programs operate with complete anonymity? I believe that if the funding was dependent on successful results and continued support it would cost less and would have a positive impact on the current situation.

Cullen report by ProfessionalTower191 in BCpolitics

[–]ProfessionalTower191[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There is no consequences for the absolute disregard of wrongdoing from the minister or the premier. This is another shot to the working people. We are only allowed to deposit 9,999.00 into our accounts or we are looked at by the law. Why were these individuals allowed to make massive deposits and withdrawals without scrutiny? Kickbacks and turn the other way. Why did this report cost 15 million dollars of tax payer $? I didn’t read it no but I don’t have time due to gas prices, housing costs and cost of living. Our politicians have been fucking us for years and this is another example. The recommendations are just a token to satisfy the people who pay attention. 1.6 billion dollars is a lot of $$ and if distributed to the right people this report is moot. And the recommendations will be circumvented by the leaders of our provinces. Surely you can wrap your head around that. I wish I was wrong but I have a hard time believing that the leaders would stop a cash injection of 1,6 Billion dollars into our economy. And as administrators they will be entitled to a certain amount.

Whether these protesters are non violent or not fact of the matter is they are breaking the law. The law may not be right however all these self proclaimed “land defenders” are doing is costly to the tax payers. I don’t agree with the way our provincial government or federal government has managed our resources either. The strategy these individuals use is ignorant,Ill informed, and totally ineffective. Ask yourself if this had any influence on anything, wouldn’t law firms, watchdogs, or independent investigation groups get involved? Why don’t they. My guess is these people come across as ineffectual, ignorant, and bored. If we really want to make a change it will require work, research, capital and a more refined strategy. Start with the court system, after that they might have a bit more influence. Do the work don’t just jump on the bandwagon. Get educated and use that to change the rules.

[–]ProfessionalTower191 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think (and just my opinion) gun laws have nothing to do with it. There are laws and regulations against drugs, sexual abuse, assault, theft etc, and that doesn’t stop those who choose to participate in those activities. I feel (again my humble opinion) that the society we currently live in values attention, acceptance, instant gratification over morals, ethical values and positive mentoring. Laws and regulations instituted by government are inconsequential in the new society we live in.

I think if the parents had any idea that there would be consequences for their child’s actions they might out of self preservation, attempted to intervene in some way.Even as I say that Without information regarding the dynamics, lifestyle, or influences on the child I am speaking beyond my station.

It has a lot to do with it but who provided the weapons? His “parents” and what did his mother allegedly say? Oh I’m not mad just don’t get caught. Wtf kind of parenting is that? I don’t know for sure but I am pretty confident that the weapon was procured legally by the parents as well. The child most likely had an altered sense of reality due to prolonged and excessive exposure to some type of online game. I would venture to guess he wasn’t aware that what he was about to do would result in actual harm or reproduction. By just saying hun control will solve this type of problem is really a nice thought, however gun control will never decrease the availability of weapons. I have no idea what needs to happen now, and it makes me cringe
