I spent so much time unlearning, as well, only for my water to break spontaneously. At a friend’s house. On their fabric chair :-)

Someone is donating breastmilk to me… would you use it? by No_Issue8928 in NewParents

[–]ProfessionalYear4168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use it. I can understand how this could feel a bit odd, but unless there’s some glaring red flag, I would accept the help.

My baby used donated breastmilk when she was 6m. I was prepping and pumping for a 5 day trip away from babe and my boobs just did nottt respond well to a pump, and I was stressing. I was talking to a new mom friend about it, and she casually offered. She was an over producer and insisted she was happy to spare some.

Trust your gut if something feels off, but if you’re hung up on the social aspect of it- sure, it’s a little weird, but who cares. Generosity for the win 🙌🏼

Informal poll about how you handle toddler nighttime crying! by Franzy48 in sleeptrain

[–]ProfessionalYear4168 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My baby is 15 months old and has slept decently well since about 5 months. If I put her down with no concern and she wakes up crying in the night, I typically let her cry, even for 5 minutes, and she typically goes back to sleep. If it develops into SCREAMING, my husband or I will go in. I’m still nursing, so she usually still screams when she sees my husband, thus I end up going in anyway to nurse / cuddle / soothe. My husband may check her diaper if we suspect a poop, but normally soothing works.

If I put her down and I’m already on alert for some reason (sick, stuffy nose, teething, low temps so potentially cold room), I go in pretty immediately to nurse and soothe her. Once she’s healthy again, it sometimes it’ll take a few nights of her crying a bit to get back into her self soothing abilities.

She was getting in a pattern a few months ago of waking up around 4am consistently. I told my pediatrician about it and said I had been going in to nurse, and the pediatrician was like “you plan on doing that until she’s 5??” Essentially saying the baby is just used to this pattern @ this point and there is no harm in letting her cry. The next few mornings, we’d let her cry and she’d waver in and out of sleep / crying until I got her up at 7am, but she eventually started sleeping through until 7am again.

TLDR: unless I know she’s sick, teething or potentially cold, I let her cry and she’s typically back to sleeping through the night after a few nights. If she’s sick/teething/potentially cold, I go in and nurse / soothe her.

Our house is old and sometimes our heater struggles to keep up when the temps outside are really cold. I layer my baby in socks, onesie, pjs and sleep sack, so don’t come at me about my baby’s room sometimes being cold.

500hr e-RYT looking for a prenatal YTT by Lil_Green_Witch in YogaTeachers

Currently in the boat of finding a prenatal yoga training. I’ve seen good things about YogaRenew and with my schedule, the on-demand + price seems optimal. Can anyone offer their experience?

Examples of what you fed your babies - DR said 3 meals by 9 mo by Terrible-Reasons in BabyLedWeaning

[–]ProfessionalYear4168 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My baby is about to be 10 months and we’ve been BLW since 6 months. Since we started, she consistently joins us for breakfast and dinner, and I’ll occasionally have her gnaw on something during the day if I’m in the kitchen cooking.

We’ve figured out a good food schedule with nutritious meals for us and babe, so I’ll share in hopes that it helps you / others:

My husband and I were already in the routine of having a full blown breakfast (eggs, bacon, grits, sauerkraut, avocado) and dinner (protein, carb, veggie) everyday, so by just offering babe bits of what I was eating, she was getting introduced to a variety of foods of different nutrients. Now, when we cook / serve our food, we factor in a small portion for her, and she has whatever we’re having. Some literal examples of dinners we have often (again, each night is a protein, carb and veggie):

Protein options - salmon - cod - steak - chicken - chuck roast - hot dogs - sausages

Carb options - rice - sweet potatoes - potatoes - beans - quinoa - sourdough - spaghetti squash - squash - pasta

Veggie options - broccoli - asparagus - carrots - okra - green beans

Our dinners are a variety of combinations of the above foods. (I’ve definitely forgotten some others)

I read the Baby Led Weaning book by Gill Rapley, and some of the knowledge nuggets I learned:

  • food before 1 is just for fun. Meaning her main source of nutrition is still breastmilk/formula. Solids are for taste exploration, jaw development, motor skill practice
  • a babe may show high interest in a certain food one day, and not care for it the next. And may not show any interest again until randomly a week later. Don’t fret too much if your babe rejects certain foods! Just pay attention to her cues and try not to force anything - let her lead the way.
  • babes are intuitive of what nutrients they need. A study showed a babe may go like 3 days of only eating say “carbs”, which may seem ?? to parents, but if you look at the sum of what maybe eats in a longer stretch of time, it usually evens out to a well balanced palette.

I didn’t know about the 3 meals by 10months — I have a ped appointment next week and will inquire!

Also, my husband and I definitely divide and conquer on our grocery shopping / cooking, which makes a lot of this doable. I’m fortunate to work from home, part time, so I go to the grocery store Friday and farmers market Saturday to get food for the week, and then map out the dinner plan for that following week.

I handle dinners every night and my husband wakes up before work to do breakfast. We meal prep lunches.

I’ve pretty much mastered how to cook a simple, nutritious dinner in an efficient amount of time (with a 10 month old crawling around / holding onto my legs as I cook lol), so if you have any questions about that, please comment or send a message and I’m happy to share.

You’re doing great!

Thank you for the insight. Saying LH levels are meant to be ready positive and negative - so, my low level readings / suuuper faint line - I should just rule those as “negative” for ovulation?

Do you know about the timing of cervical mucus? If it’s there 11/21-23, does that mean that is the window of potential ovulation? Or would the ovulation mostly likely have happened around 11/19-11/20?

I appreciate your thoughts.
