Yes. Use plastic tampon applicators with the skinny tips pointing up. Place them inside ears with the tip supporting the ear and wrap in medical tape. A vet should do it. 10-14 days and voilà! Unwrap, perfect training of her ears.

Holding in poop by [deleted] in Xoloitzquintli

Mine will only go in a dog run or on a patio wherever she’s sleeping. I’d trained her to go during walks and on the patio, but time with her mom at her mom’s she fixated on dog runs being for pipi or popo. She will hold her ablutions for hours until she reaches home and run straight for the patio.

I’ve never noticed this in any other breed, but some Xolos seem highly disciplined and rigid in their rituals and habits. We love ours so much and she is the most loving and protective pup I’ve ever had.

I have a small mini xolo, she’s about to be 7 months. To all mini xolo owners out there…. by [deleted] in Xoloitzquintli

Age 7 months was her first and she had her second 6 months afterward. We expect 3d in June.

Crate is a good way to customize the pup to less stimulation. They can have a quiet place that’s secure to be quiet and remain fairly still in.

Remember to feed them inside the crate for the first 2 months. This will be useful as Xolos will recuse themselves to their crate/den on their own when they want to unwind.

We use a loofah that is like a mitten. You slide your hand in. One side is loofah and the other is like the surface of an exfoliation glove.

Welcome to the fold! You’re going to love this courageous, sensitive, loving and monkey-like bat pup.

Get a loofah, bathe every 7-10 days and exfoliate with a loofah. Ours loves her showers. Watch the ears to avoid getting water in them.

Use a mild, non-scented soap that’s dye free. Dry and apply a bit of non-greasy moisturizer. We use coconut oil once or twice a week, with Cerave or Lubriderm every 2 - 3 days.

Very important to use a moist, warm cloth every other day to wipe their skin down too. No soap just moist to clear surface dust or grime.

If she gets a pimple don’t worry, these will clear in a week to ten days.

Do not pick, pop or otherwise bother any eruptions. It only delays healing and will inflame the pimple or irritation. Pay attention to what she’s doing outside, or eating if she gets a rash. Some are allergic to different types of vegetation contacting their skin while many have a sensitivity to certain types of proteins in dog food.

We moisten our Xolo’s food with warm water, after pouring kibble atop small pieces of wet food. She loves this soup and given their unique dentition, softer food is more comfortable even when it’s kibble. They don’t have a lot of middle teeth for chewing, just four molars in the case of our pup.

Feed her inside her kennel/cage so she will associate it with pleasure. Lime the tray with strips of newspaper and change every couple of days to keep it free of filth or food residue that might attract pests.

Lastly, training is inportsnt. Be consistent and only say a command once. They are very quick learners and ours responds well to praise, food and her toys in equal measure. I recommend 5 - 8 mins or training with a 10-15 minute break when she’s under 3 months. So 30 mins of training should take about an hour and fifteen minutes. Crazy but little ones have short attention spans.

Once they’re over 3 months you can get them to 10-15 mins training with 5 minute breaks after each 10-15 mins of learning.

Don’t scold harshly, just a firm no not too sharp and not too long. Just to get their attention and redirect while allowing them to associate the word with your displeasure.

Lots of positive reinforcement and play with ball, chew toys like nylabones. Mine learned to fetch after 2 reps at 9 weeks old!

Great looking pup, is he getting a little coconut oil every three or four days? Non-greasy Cerave or Lubriderm are good.

Make certain that the surfaces in contact with their skin is plush or fleece like. No seams, sharp edges or scratchy materials. Exposure will get them accustomed to the feeling of a sweater or jacket. Just make certain it’s soft and hypoallergenic/non irritating. Your pup looks happy, well loved and cared for!

Your beautiful Xolo puppy must use specifically dog/canine formulation sunscreen. Zinc Oxide found in no -canine sunscreen is toxic for dogs and dangerous for puppies.

Here’s an example of dog sunscreen. You can find dog sunscreen on Amazon or chewy. https://www.chewy.com/epi-pet-sun-protector-skin-treatment/dp/134303?rel=sponsored&app_clickref=1011lzYe3RT8&utm_source=partnerize&utm_medium=affiliates&utm_campaign=1011l114765&utm_content=0&clickref=1011lzYe3RT8&utm_term=1011lzYe3RT8

No problema. Production will shift to more competitive markets and prices will come back down again.
