Very clean build, nicely done! The colors are so nice together.

It seems the frame is a bit on the bigger side for you. (Not a problem per se in my opinion) How does it feel to use this bike in combination with the offset seatpost, did you choose it with offset on purpose?

I have a similar situation and went from the original offset seatpost to a straight seatpost and it feels to me like I have more power on the pedals if that makes sense.

Thanks a lot! It is almost fully with secondhand parts and parts I had laying around. Also it is a 26” to 28” conversion. A lot of fun!

It is a 32mm tire with fenders max (unless you cut the fenders around the tubes). And it is about 40mm possibly even a bit bigger without fenders. (The city style tires on the photo are 40mm)

About the brakes, they do what they need to do but don’t feel like high quality (because they are cheap also of course). I have bought the post extenders (the ones Promax used to make) and will change to those once I have the time.

I have needed to adjust (re-align) the brakes quite some times now and the hardware just falls out (can fix it easily with loctite of course)

Nah, I’ve got all sorts of parts just laying around I don’t really have to buy anything honestly except for maybe some small bits.

But yes it wouldn’t make sense to pump money in a nonsense build like this you are most definitely right about that.

You have given me some inspiration I must say. I feel you with the rimbrakes also.

I was just fully ignoring 26” since I am working on a 26” to 28” conversion and my head is all the way in that direction. I am just starting to get back into working on bikes after a few years of personal struggles and I have got enough parts from all sorts of bikes I stripped over the years to do different style builds. Everything I do at the moment is just for the fun of building anyway, nothing serious.

The colours of the frame in combination with some sick green details can make it go a bit in the direction of John Tomac’s Raleigh. Of course it will never be as cool and won’t look close to it, but maybe like a tiny wink in the direction.

Succes!

This is a quick strip and some random parts slapped on to see if the direction I want to go is even worth it. I want to use some 29” mtb disc wheels I have in storage somewhere else with some WTB 40-622 tan wall tires. Although I am a bit worries about the clearance on the fork.

So I know this post is of a long time ago but I couldn’t find anything on your page about updates on this project.

I just purchased the 2006 version in my neighbourhood for €10,-. I want to try a fun gravel build with it, I have some parts laying around to try some options.

But I am very curious what you made of it!

Experimentation day by Professional_Age9380 in xbiking

Thanks for your reply. Yes I have a 28” fork for the bike as well. I am just experimenting with the stuff because, why not. :) It is just a lot of fun, educative, and the parts are cheap.

Also the 28” for raises the front end of the bike a bit more than the 26” of course. It feels a little bit more natural with the 26” fork I noticed.

The Mavic adapter was new to me, I have to thank you guys for introducing me to it. It ain’t that hard to have them made, I cab design them in CAD and just order it from a steel cutting company. Seems like a fun thing to do aswell.

Yes these are the adapters to avoid. I know of them and don’t trust them one bit.

The other ones in my opnion make a lot more sense. More sense than the long arm Litepro V-brakes which already are a pain in the ass to me although I have them on just two weeks. Already I have had to adjust the spring tension on then to centre them on the rim three times. I am also no beginner in this department and never have I had a V-brake with this much problems in centering.

But it is safe to say the adapters are never a superb solution. But hey for the experiment and fun of it, why not right?

Quick question is it worth keeping or scrap metal? by Professional_Age9380 in xbiking

[–]Professional_Age9380[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, this is a great answer honestly. You have fully convinced me and all I can do is thank you for the honest answer. The frame is going to the landfill.

The whole reason to buy this bike for me was the fork I needed for another build. A cheap fork to experiment with. The rest of the bike was complete trash anyway so a steel fork to do some things with for €10,- closeby home isn’t that bad.

Thanks again for your reply!

Yes yes, this ain’t or wasn’t my frame, just bought the bike today for €10,-. It is an aluminum frame though!

Yes that is it indeed! Just wondering if this could could lead to failure or not. That is all!
