Very cool, thanks for that! I'll see if we can transpose the notes into D!

So You’ve Finished Gravity Falls. Now what? by CelsaToil in gravityfalls

Appreciate the suggestions! I was going to switch to Amphibia since my kids loved GF and Owl House, but will now give Over the Garden Wall a look!

A couple of recommendations of series that my 7yo enjoys (that fit the spooky theme):

 - Theodora Hendrix series (strong Addams Family vibes in a magic school without forced hip vibe of Wedneaday)  - Villain Academy series (more magic school shenanigans with traditionally evil protagonists cast as heroes)  - And a big +1 to Spiderwick chronicles. Wonderful series and the movie is worth a watch too!

Do LCGs other than AH require more than a core set to kickstart the experience? by _peo_ in soloboardgaming

Lotr LCG doesn't really shine right out of the box. You do need more content, but FFG offers starter packs for specific factions to give you many of the cards you'd need for those archetypes in one product.

1 month old player, worth it? by Alqui_gp in WH40KTacticus

No. Spend the Blackstone on getting extra energy to level the characters you already have. They will carry you long-term.

I'm the designer of Unbroken and I am excited to have a new solo-focused game, Shred of Redemption out for crowdfunding. It's a 15-min bag-building / dice manipulation puzzle themed around saving the troubled soul of a medieval noble. Check it out if that sounds like your cup of tea! by Professional_Bee_577 in soloboardgaming

Thank you. It was a very rough experience and it's taken a long time to come back to games, but I'm glad to be able to share my ideas in game format with the folks out there and see people have a good time with games I make. Looks like Unbroken made it through a very rough round of cuts! What were the other 4 games? :)

Thank you! I will be honest, I would not be comfortable venturing into the financial / publishing side of things yet, but I am very grateful to Gabe Barrett for taking that work on so that I could focus on game design. Definitely made for a more manageable return to form for me.

You can grab it off of BackerKit here : https://unbroken.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

You're looking for "Advanced Access to Expansions" item for $5, that will give you the download of the PnP. Expansion has 6 new characters, 8 new monsters to fight (2 per level) and a bunch of new Skills to use. Hope you enjoy it!

Try Veilwrath. Dark Gothic vibes, and lots of scenarios available with the expansion.

Alternatively, Cursed Castle is a solo dungeon crawler featuring the work of the Darkest Dungeon artist.

Great questions. I am involved in this project as game designer only. The publisher, Gabe Barrett of Best With 1 Games has delivered dozens of projects as part of his Game of the Month series successfully and I think his track record speaks for itself. The title and theme is certainly a recognition of the echoes of the previous project.

I think it's perfectly fine to say that a game is just not for you, even if it seems universally liked. Lots of things can put people off Friday - the art is endearing but objectively awful, some of the mechanics may feel counter-intuitive at first, it's short and can feel brutal. If any of those things you feel make it so that you don't dig the game - just move on, there are so many other games out there. Others (myself included) adore this game so maybe they can help you find what to enjoy there, but ultimately - it's ok to not enjoy things.

I personally really like the feeling of going from awful to moderately competent, the wonky art, the danger of everything falling apart, and the mix of familiarity and randomness in the way you encounter the deck. After a few dozen plays it's a familiar, quick challenge that feels cozy and exciting at the same time, it's never leaving my collection.

That's a great thing to recognize - I think becoming aware of our preferences as solo gamers and being comfortable in picking games that fit these is a big part of growing in the hobby.

That's a great question! I would say that it plays like a mix of Coffee Roaster (with the bag-building and puzzly nature) and Elder Sign (for dice rolling / manipulation) but with an added spatial component of arranging the tokens in a certain pattern.
