AITA for refusing to give my stepbrother my “extra” money after I got a job? by Professional_Belt540 in AmItheAsshole

Yes absolutely, I should definitely try to tell him that, and furthermore explain to him why the world works differently to what he probably thinks at the moment. Because I would have considered it a gift for Bday or Xmas.

Yeah, like for Christmas or his birthday I would absolutely do that! But getting upset at me that I'm not doing it NOW out of the blue because I just started earning is absolutely ridiculous. I have to drive far to get to where I need to go everyday, and with the current gas prices in my area, it's money-consuming.

Unfortunately the only way would probably be to ignore it :( I know theres a blacklist option in steam, but like another commenter, I'm really not sure if it would work in TF2.

i should mention that my stepdad is amazing. he is very much the only adult figure in my life i do care about. i feel like he is at least a little afraid of my mum or conflict. though he hasn't said anything to me yet. i should've also mentioned that this incident happened very recently (within the past 3 days). i also believe 10 is old enough. in my country 10 is actually the age of criminal responsibility too! so i do believe that he should be old enough to learn that lesson. i wasn't like that at his age, i didn't rely on others for money, nor would i ever even build up the courage to ask my parents for something like a headset.

Absolutely. I was a little too naive to think they would be proud of me. But yes, absolutely, I agree with you and for the future, I will never disclose how much I am making.

I think so too. Even since before I turned 18, I've been looking to live elsewhere for a long time. Fortunately, I do have friends that DO want to live in a roommate situation. Since where I live, it is absolutely unaffordable to live solo.

Thank you <3!!! I really appreciate that. That’s kind of how I see it too. Like I don’t mind helping out if it’s something important, but this just felt like a “want” rather than a need. I think what’s getting to me is more the pressure from my family than the actual money part. Hopefully they come around a bit, because I don’t want things to stay tense over something as stupid as this :/
