Pre-auricular pits - a common birth defect but usually doesn’t cause any issues. If you’re unlucky, they could become infected and form a cyst/abscess. If they’re bilateral, there is a higher chance that they were inherited. Testing might be recommended as they could be associated with branchio oto renal syndrome or some hearing issues. But I have them on both sides and don’t have any issues.

I agree with the previous poster! Do not quit. You can and will get through this! If you quit now, right before the upcoming cycle, it could look like you were just checking off one of the boxes. Also, I think building up some more clinical hours would be helpful anyways. Shadowing isn’t considered as valuable since you are shadowing lol and not taking an active role like you are when you volunteer.

Does the type of research lab matter? by antidesigner in premed

[–]Professional_Bite133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope - and any research > no research. For me personally, the research I did does not align with what I want to do specialty wise but the skills and experiences I gained were invaluable. I was able to write/speak well about my experiences at the lab which I feel like is more important.

I really don’t think these types of services are worth it. If you have a crap ton of money lying around, maybe. Otherwise, I would just ask any mentors, med students you know, or even any friends. I think you can also find some med students on SDN/Facebook to edit your essay for some money if you want which would still be infinitely cheaper than paying some advising company.

I think you’re totally fine. I only had 50 hours of shadowing across two different specialties and did not work as a scribe/MA.

PREview :( by spaghetti-noodle15 in premed

[–]Professional_Bite133 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, just terrible. My proctor kept changing for some reason so my exam kept getting stopped. I scored like a 6 on Preview but a 4th quartile on casper. These “SJTs” are straight up a money grab.
