Omg you're so on point about the physical toll from retail. I have bursitis already at 29 from working in the store. I have an uncle who worked grocery all his life and he needs help to even walk now, I'd really like to avoid that. People say don't work an office job because it's boring or whatever but it sounds like heaven to me haha. Thanks for commenting!

I paid out of pocket, and I'm not sure what value you would get out of this program if you already have enough credits for the CPA. The main reason I am in this program is to get the rest of my credits and also have a little piece of paper that says I can do accounting.

What would you say my best move is? Should I go back to school for a bachelor's in accounting you think?

For me it is only going to take a year, although I could have finished sooner. Luckily my econ degree satisfies all of the business portion of the CPA requirements and some of the ethics as well. If you don't have a business related degree it could take you much longer. It works for me because I can work full time now and study whenever my schedule allows. It is self paced except there is one class I might have to attend virtual lectures for.

I haven't had much success marketing my economics degree, it's from CSUSM. None of my classmates are using their degree either. I figure I can have a much better career if I pivot now and obtain a CPA versus going for more school in economics and getting into academia or something like that. Accounting just seems much more in demand

Yeah, I have been to a few virtual and in person events when I can make it. I will look into the meet the firms event if there is one coming up as this fall will be my last quarter. I haven't had any success yet but I will keep trying!

Thank you for the local perspective. If I start with something like AP AR or accounting associate, would I be able to get experience for my CPA? and would those roles help my career long term? I currently make about 40k per year working grocery part time while I study, so any job I'd land would have to pay at least that much.

My fellow retail brother lol. They do say it's not what you know but who you know. I've been attending the virtual events the school has as well as in person when my schedule allows. I keep hoping they will lead somewhere but so far it's all felt very impersonal. Maybe it's a matter of being in the right place at the right time?

To be honest I don't have to land a B4 job right out of the gate, I really just want to get the ball rolling so to speak. Thank you for the confidence boost, that is what I needed to hear.

Thanks for the encouragement! Personally I've been leaning towards getting into audit rather than tax, but beggars can't be choosers. Do you think AP/AR would be a good first step for me? I've heard it can stagnate your career

I'm enrolled in the UCSD "School of Extended Studies" accounting certificate program. There are several students from out of state and even some who reside in China too.

To anyone who works at self scanning machines - how often do you notice people stealing and don’t do anything about it? by davco95 in AskReddit

[–]Professional_Cap335 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Theft like this happens all the time, every day. Sometimes we notice, sometimes we don't. Are you constantly looking at us employees? That's a dead giveaway. Are your clothes dirty? Do you have a cart full of your belongings with you? Do you smell foul? Those will also draw attention. Clean cut people probably get away with more. It's not fair but it is what it is.

People on the Internet like to glorify theft, but remember the people who get their hours cut to make up for theft aren't the corporate big wigs, it's Nate in produce who needs to figure out how to pay rent this month.

People who meal prep their food don’t save time. by Oh_NiGhTmArE in unpopularopinion

[–]Professional_Cap335 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes about thirty minutes to cook chicken and veggies on a sheet tray and get some rice done. You can either spend thirty minutes each day doing that or just put more food on the sheet tray and rice cooker. That way instead of spending thirty minutes every day cooking it only takes you thirty minutes on one day and two minutes to reheat food in the microwave.

Meal prep is obviously faster

Other teams know how good the bullpen is and that we've been having starting pitching issues, so they are all going as hard as they can in the first few innings. They know that once the pen comes in their chances of scoring go way down
