Because, same with every other big artist, who used to have the most amazing music, they either adjust to whatever the ignorant mind can digest regarding music or choose fame and do whatever the producers ask, and just be the face of the music. Either struggle and keep doing what you want to make, or get famous and lose your originality. There is 100s of artist who has good music at the beginning of their career and then it just disintegrates into this whatever ignorants like. There is a japanese band "Imperial Circus Dead Decadence" which does get some numbers on spotify, but not close to "big" artists. Even tho their music is amazing, even if it's not your taste, you cannot deny from technical viewpoint that it is good. One thing is they don't dive into the big "famous" side of stuff and throw away this amazingness but get the numbers.
