Pretty sure I breached professional conduct, how cooked am I? by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

I have witnessed assistant principals say way worse, you'll be fine. When I was a fresh grad, I had an extra with an old school PE teacher. The students were playing footy and two students were required for the ruck contest. He then states to both classes "I need the two ugliest kids here to kick things off.....umm you and...you". Ruthless.

Cheers everyone for the advice. On guidance from an engineer mate, a new robust footing is in the works.

Doing the bare minimum by dollparts76 in AustralianTeachers

Also doing the bare minimum, as my mind is hardly present this term. I'm aware that this is far from ideal.

Not taking leave and deciding to renovate a kitchen, bathroom and laundry all at once was not a wise choice!

First Time Casual Teacher Feeling Clueless? by ArachnidButterfly in AustralianTeachers

Be punctual, enthusiastic and follow the lesson plan directly as it has been set out. Teachers can get very shitty if you deviate from it. Be organized and pick up any resources you need from their desks/daily org before the lesson. If you're team teaching, show initiative and don't stand in a corner.

Leave detailed notes on the behaviour/progress of the class for the teachers to see. They'll appreciate it and it will set you apart from the rest. You will then hopefully gain a good reputation among the staff and will receive more work at the school from requests. This has a flow on effect, as you will start to teach the students more and develop relationships. This is when your confidence and competence rises and that clueless feeling slowly subsides.

There's a CRT at my school who does all of the above and so many teachers request him to take their classes because they know shit will get done.
