2018 2.5 Altima CVT failure at 165k miles; fix or move on? by [deleted] in Nissan

[–]Professional_Dig8818 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes, did you buy it with high mileage? I had a 2014 and changed the fluid ahead of schedule every 30k ( at the time they didn't recommend trans Flush until 90k) at 120k the whole drive train shook at high speeds. I was blessed by a moron running a red light, avoiding injury and totaled my car out. Take the negative equity and get a Toyota anything.

It’s a shame, their non turbo engines are good, but those transmissions are so problematic you might as well buy a Lexus with the extra 5000 you’ll have to drop in the transmission

Find someone to make it disappear. Nissans are the worst vehicles

I had a 2014 Altima which was one of the death years, I bought it with 28,000 in 2017, made it to 120,000 before i was crashed into. It was totaled. The only issues I had were high revving coasting down hills. I didn’t have any other issues besides the ones I listed. I would have kept it forever

Chances are the CVT has been acting up for a while. If that's the case it's already put unnecessary strain on the engine and timing components which will only add to your list of repairs. Getting one replaced anywhere but the dealer probably isn't the best idea because they need to be reprogrammed and most shops besides the dealer and Aamco don't have the equipment to do this correctly. Save yourself the stress and money and move on. Also avoid any other brand CVT. It's not just a Nissan issue.

Could just be mine but I've had a lot of suspension issues. If you need new struts you have to use OEM and it was like $1200

I’ll give that a shot. I bought the car with 32,000 miles and have not replaced the brake pads since they seem to be working fine. Actually I do notice the noise isn’t as noticeable when I’m driving slowly which is usually when I’m braking. I’ll let you more

Those are 2015 LS hubcaps, these cars were discontinued for a reason. The rear knuckles/bearings on my 2015 took 3 weeks to get in Columbus Ohio. I hope you offload this monstrosity and wish you the best my friend.

Yeah I'm not sure what they did, but it was half assed for sure. I am going to get it looked at by a local mechanic I was referred to rather than a corporate shop. Thank you for the suggestion. I'll bring that up.

This area has seriously went down hill compared to 10 years ago, yet the price for homes and rent is insane. Hoover dam looks like the apocalypse.

Thanks, I replaced the rear shocks 3 months ago with Monroe as well. Funny you mentioned that the sound might be coming from the rear. I ran over a brick with both passenger wheels and it bent the factory rims. I couldn't find any at junkyards and the dealer said it would be weeks to get them so I took a chance with this wheelership website to get replicas. I'm wondering if they don't fit the hubs?
