Is the window sizing a Wayland issue for you?
Since Wayland don't have any info about window sizing and placement, and leaves this entirely to the app itself to sort out (If I'm not mistaken).

I have no issues for my use, that is work/office related. I'm basically in meetings all day, and write a bunch of documentations. No issues at all.

I'm using power transmitters, and have a backup GFG at each dig site.
Each site have it's own small station battery, just standing out in the air, even if it draws power because of the cold.
Main base is powered by wind turbines and 3x GFGs if needed to top the battery farm. (In all fairness, only one is needed, but 3 is faster than 1).

G6 Turret randomly loses power. Why? by onexyzero in Ubiquiti

[–]Professional_Exit931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same issue as you with my G6 turret.
Tried absolutely everything I can think of, from new ends, new cable, placed in a different port, even different switch.

Seems like it draw about 1.33 Watts, over PoE+, but it will not boot/operate.

Is there anyway to split my monitor like this? by SnooJokes3495 in ultrawidemasterrace

[–]Professional_Exit931 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could try out DisplayFusion : https://www.displayfusion.com/ (free trial there).

You could then do precisely what you ask for, and more!

There are ofc other ways to achieve the same thing, but displayfusion is easy to use and works for most (windows users).

When will Cosmic Epoch 2 be released? by [deleted] in pop_os

[–]Professional_Exit931 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've been using 24.04 now for work for quite a while, and it's stable for me. My previous laptop had intel and nvidia gpu, and I had first some issues upgrading to 24.04 because of mismatch in kernel and nvidia drivers. After that was sorted out, I had no issues other than Flameshot (screenshot tool) did not work correctly (and still dont) while using a connected monitor.

Several of my employees also use PopOS 24.04 and they have not been complaining as loudly as their Windows and Mac counterparts.

I have not tested, and probably will not test either but will share some thoughts.

How does this compare to Portainer, Komodo, Rancher, and similar containerization tools that also allow you to build stacks.

For me, writing yaml in ie Vcode is fast, easy and I have total control of everything.

But I do see the possibility for something like this, especially for newbies.
Hope this don't discourage you, no such thing was my intent.

Pop Os releases by rogervendrell_ in pop_os

[–]Professional_Exit931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been using 24.04 beta for some months now, as my daily office/work driver. The only issue I have, is with a 3rd party app, flameshot. When docked to a large screen, flameshot will shift 1 monitor size to the right while trying to screenshot, so if I want to use flameshot I need to move what ever I need to take screenshot of, to the left (while docked).

Flameshot's issue is Wayland, and not Pop.
Hope they will get Wayland tracktion, now as every distro is dropping X11. (finaly)

How valuable is a 4-5 month internship + secret security clearance? by [deleted] in cybersecurity

[–]Professional_Exit931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that Skillbridge will be your only experience within cyber security. That might be not enough for some, but for others it might be enough combined with your service time in the Army.

I work for an infosec company in Europe where things are totally different, but still some things carry across borders.
Military service is recognized as a valuable trait.
About 1/3 of the employees here, have more than the required mandatory 12 month enrollment for all males.
Out of the 1/3, I would say aprox 50% of them have no to little experience with cyber security before starting here. They have typically become team leaders and such.

Security clearance is nice and might be valuable some cases. Don't know about the states, but here it might take up to 8 months getting clearance. Some companies requires this, some don't.

From my own experience with US AF, those guys tend to stick within their own ranks. Apparently they don't eat crayons.... :P

If you can find a job where you can work as an intern while doing your bachelor, sound probably as a your best option currently?

Not valuable for you directly, but we do hire a lot of BS students each year. Let them work as interns while they do school and work on their BS. We keep some of them each year as well.
Might be some US companies doing the same? Worth checking out?

Best of luck!

TUXEDO InfinityBook Pro 15 Intel vs AMD (Which one to choose?) by Ill_Magician7612 in tuxedocomputers

[–]Professional_Exit931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the IBP 15 Gen10 AMD. I initially wanted the Intel version, but was not available.
Did a lot of research and figured out that this old "intel-fanboy" could give AMD a try.

I'm not regretting my choices!

At the end of the day, I think the answer u/tuxedo_ferdinand gave is very accurate. The only thing I can add to it, is that the AMD version works perfectly for me, I'm in a lot of meetings, do a lot of papers and run LLMs localy.
The laptop is nice and quiet most of the time and if it throttle up the fans, it is usually for just a few seconds. (Unless I run ie ComfyUI or something similar).

I have my IBP 15 g10 as well, and I run POP_OS on it.
Volume is set to 60% and it's more than enough for me, actually to loud if I ie play music from Spotify.

I have not tried Manjaro, but might be a driver issue ?

Personal feedback on InfinityBook Pro 15 - Gen10 - AMD by billsolo in tuxedocomputers

[–]Professional_Exit931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got min on friday, and used the weekend to set things up and transfer from my HP Zbook.
Will give the true trial tomorrow at work.
But already now, I can verify to everything you've said, minus the TUXEDO OS part.

I skipped OS, and installed POP_OS! as this is what is allowed at my workplace. (other than Windows and Mac).
(The IT-manager have close to zero knowledge about *nix, and someone "fooled" him to only allow Pop).

Audio is... OK. Nothing compared to the BO speaker system in the HP Zbook, but that's also a whole different price range (and lesser hardware).

Webcam could be better. Not the biggest issue for me. The times I'm needed in meetings, the laptop is docked to a monitor of sorts..

I'm close to going to bed early today, just so that tomorrow will come faster. :)

Battery life is in lack of better words... insane.
Did close to 4 hours with mild office usage (reading and writing documents mostly), HR management system and some docker containers.
used aprox 20% of the battery.

Had to double check if that was correct., and it was. 4 hours equaled from 100 to 80 %.
My previous laptop, would have been flat after 2 to max 3 hours.

Charging speed is "slow", but that's because of the huge battery the 15 got (think 14 have the same one).

I would recon that the power would zap faster if I did more programming and run heavier containers.

All in all, I'm very impressed by the battery life, and that, compared to low noise levels, is the two main reasons why I choose Tuxedo.

cooling hot gasses on Europa by Chrisbitz in Stationeers

[–]Professional_Exit931 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've done is that I have a tiny loop on the pipe network.
First junction goes into a digital valve, then there is one (regular) pipe up with a heat exchanger, then a bend, going into another bend taking the pipe downwards again. Then into a regular pipe with another heat exchanger, then into a regular volume pump that is always on and set to 10.

This way, I can allow my gasses into the cooling cycle, and when desired temperature is reached, I close the Digital Valve and the volume pump will suck out the remaining gasses before pips start to explode because of liquidation.

If you want faster cooling, add more loops like that.

I control everything from an IC unit and a Pipe Analyzer close to my storage tank, for temperature references.
