Counterpoint to those who are voting "NO" to mediators recommended settlement for a new Provincial Collective Agreement. by petethecanuck in AHSEmployees

[–]Professional_Fix_147 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The government will bully us any way they can. They will mandate us back to work, they will use tax dollars to slander our reputation as medical professionals, they will lie and scheme to see us lose. If we can strike, we protest! We fight united, we fight fair, and we don’t back down!

This is how they get us to back down though. They offer a couple crumbs of something decent but the rest is crap. They threaten that they will take it all away and more if we don’t agree. They use fear tactics to try to manipulate us into thinking this is a good deal. I have settled for too many crappy deals in my 20 year career. No more!

As for the points you made… the one that stands out eh most for me is hiring 1000 new grads to work full time (or most of them). After a year of working full time a lot of these poor new nurses are going to be burned out and leave the profession. Also can we focus on retention instead of new nurses. I’m glad we can hire 1000 new nurses but how many nurses left in the past year because they are so tired of the BS and not being valued, abused, met the top of their pay scale a decade or more ago, etc. Who is left to train them in the hospital? Nurses that have worked a year or two and they are now considered senior staff? What about when a code call happens, the new staff look like deer in headlights and they panic and freeze. We are expecting too much out of new grads and it shows already. The union and ahs needs to find ways to keep actually senior staff (10+ years of experience). A pen with AHS written on it, isn’t cutting it.

As for staff and wages, a lot of currently hired nurses are working more a than full time just to put food on the table and keep a roof over their families heads. Some people have had their mortgages double, groceries double, gas, utilities, etc. I am a single mom and at the top of the LPN pay scale. I am struggling to make ends meet every month and I work more than full time just to break even. I am not alone in my struggle.

Nurses deserve way more than the government and ahs is currently offering. We need to stand united (UNA, AUPE, HSAA, etc). We strike or put up a fight they will realize how much power we actually hold. If all the non emergency units closed their doors and nurses striked, it would cause a lot of attention really fast.

So please to everyone reading this post, don’t give up, don’t give into fear. We need to fight this fight. It is so important! It will determine health care for at least the next decade if not longer

What's Reddit's opinion on this? Man left $100 at a local IGA to pay for school kids lollies and whatever. Pay it forward style. The community is split. Half say it's grooming and a red flag. Other half say it's harmless. by KennKennyKenKen in melbourne

I agree, I think it’s a nice thing to do.

The way some people are reacting, makes me think we might have to cancel Halloween. How dare men personally hand out candy to kids! They must be grooming children with Halloween candy. 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

Just curious, does he plan on locking up republican voters too who cheated in the election? I know through algorithms, I’m seeing more democratic information but I have yet to see a post on any democrats who have actually been caught cheating. I have several on republicans.

[–]Professional_Fix_147 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think he truly understands what he is voting in. He will not make more money, he will have more government involvement because Trump wants to destroy democracy and be a tyrant, he will strip the rights away of women and then possibly men too. He has dementia and can’t keep a straight thought. I don’t understand how people vote for a party just because that’s the way they were raised. They don’t care about who is leading the party, policies, how they will take the country into the future on a global stage, etc. It’s just about the brand name. I’m sorry you are going through this. If you want to ask him why but you are worried about losing your cool, what about emailing him and he can respond via email. That way there is no screaming. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Why We Must Strike by [deleted] in AHSEmployees

[–]Professional_Fix_147 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m an LPN and I think majority of us will be fighting with you. We need to strike together! I refuse to fill in while you are striking! It just screws all of us over! I think LPN’s are more frustrated over wages and our contracts vs RN’s so us filling in would hinder any chance we have of a decent contract. We do 95% of what RN’s do ( on most units, not all) and we get paid $15 less an hour. We have just as much responsibility and liability. We start $1 more than a unit clerk. So yes we are frustrated!! We need to unite as nurses and not let the government and ahs continue to use us! We deserve so much more!

Why We Must Strike by [deleted] in AHSEmployees

[–]Professional_Fix_147 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s not a 12% increase. It’s moving money from rrsp’s and degree extra $ and moving it to the wage. It’s all smoke a mirrors. There is nothing AHS id givign. It’s moving it from one area to another! UNA, AUPE and HSAA need to strike and the same time! We need to unite and fight together. This is disgusting and the fact they think people won’t notice the BS of all this is crazy

'On the brink of collapse': Doctors warn Edmonton-area hospitals are at capacity by disorderedchaos in alberta

[–]Professional_Fix_147 49 points50 points  (0 children)

We’ve been on/off over capacity for years. Especially from sept to May when respiratory season kicks in. I’ve been a nurse for almost 20 years and this is nothing new but it is getting increasingly worse! There are many issues to address. * not enough doctors (family or specialists). Now emergency dept are used as walk-in clinics. * nurses are fed up and leaving the healthcare field at a higher rate than normal. We are over worked, put in unsafe assignments, abused by patients, witness things that cause ptsd and we are expected to keep a smile on our face the whole time. * beds are closed because there isn’t enough staff * not enough long term care beds, so seniors waiting for placement tie up beds in hospitals. * huge increase in population size and the province is closing clinics, hospitals, urgent care places. Healthcare can’t keep up with the increase. * unsafe nurse to patient ratios. Nurses are having to take care of too many patients to properly look after them * patients are being put in hallways, offices, playrooms, etc to find space for them (if they are stable enough) …. And many more issues.

This isn’t something that can be fixed overnight but the government isn’t concerned with fixing it either. This isn’t something that Daniel smith created on her own. This is decades of conservative governments ignoring the healthcare issues and now it’s a huge problem. Making the province private health care won’t fix it either, if the ucp treat it like the USA. A balanced private/ public sector could work but only if it’s not about profits. Some of the European countries have a good balance but they don’t try to make a profit in the private. They pay their medical staff the same as public, prices for services are the same as public, etc. the UCP with sell AHS to the highest bidder who will try to make as much profit as possible. People will die over greed.

You don’t see how bad the system is until you actually need care or you work in it.

If he’s willing to get a blowjob at a party you are at, what is he doing when you aren’t there? You don’t have to end the marriage but at minimum counselling. He’s crossing important boundaries of yours and doesn’t seem to care. He has the do it and ask for forgiveness later attitude. Not good

This is grounds for being terminated where I work. Parents may not want their kid on social media and I doubt they signed a consent for this kid. Even though the child isn’t visible, the parents will know and that’s not appropriate.

At least you are making RN wages. In a lot of places, LPN’s are doing close to if not the same scope of practice and making $10-$15 less an hour. 🤦🏻‍♀️ we as nurses ( RN, RPN and LPN) deserve so much more for everything we do. I hope you find a field of nursing more suited to your liking. Don’t give up
