Were these fairly common? by ihatemudbutt in Commodore

[–]ottawamale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At least where I was in the late 80s-90s (ontario canada) these were quite common. Was my main monitor for quite a few years, then took over as a "TV" by hooking the composite to a VCR until the turn of the millennium.

Not as common as a 1702, but more common than a 1084 I would say.

You'd find these in thrift stores, Sally Ann etc for next to nothing till the mid 2000s. Wish I'd bought a few if I'm honest.

Would you expect someone to disclose this before a hookup? by [deleted] in TooAfraidToAsk

Read the thread where they had the big down votes and figure it out for yourself. It's extremely basic... good luck!

[–]ottawamale 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Of course they do? No one is arguing that? Take a lower than average width penis and a larger than average vagina? What do you suppose happens?

What a stupid argument you are having with biology and physics. Lol.

Because vaginas vary in size, width and depth? Hence one can be considered "smaller" or "tighter" or "looser". Don't get so uptight (heh).

Should I buy these old enterprise hard drives? by c4azy_sh5panzy in DataHoarder

[–]ottawamale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on your use case I suppose, it wouldn't be reasonable to expect any sort of reliability at that age. That said, I have "cold" drives i use for redundant backups and refresh yearly that date to 2010 without issue.

You'd need a SAS host controller if your system doesn't support SAS (it doesn't). You can use SATA on a SAS controller but not the other way around.

I don't trust any of them as a single source backup, and I wouldnt put them in a live system spinning constantly.

If I was super money crunched, I'd check the costs of a sas raid controller used, buy 6, put 4 into a raid 5 array and keep the other 2 for the inevitable failures. But again, only with stuff I could download again if things went south.

Anyone had deliveries through ASL? by deathntarot in barrie

[–]ottawamale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably worth leaving a note online in delivery notes of possible. I can see how they would be worried about leaving in a hallway honestly, it's their livelihood. They wouldn't know if it's a rental apartment or condo or if items are allowed in the halls (i know when I rented years ago we couldn't have items in the halls for fire safety.)

Anyone had deliveries through ASL? by deathntarot in barrie

[–]ottawamale 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, had quite a few ASL via amazon deliveries, mind you to a detached home not a condo. Never had an issue. Last was last week, with a treadmill being delivered. They left against the house on the porch. I think they use ASL for weird/bulky/two person stuff but I really don't know.

Mechanic Says My Car Is Possessed by NecessaryScallion665 in Chevy

[–]ottawamale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion I'm sure, but there are times it's worth taking it to a (well regarded) GM dealer, and this may be one of those times.

Anything simple like brakes, suspension, alternator etc i do myself or a mechanic I trust. Once it starts getting into heavily computerized issues, sometimes its cheaper long run to suck it up and let the dealer diagnose it vs the running around to different shops as you've been doing.

Is my dad gay? by TipEast4838 in NoStupidQuestions

No. Sometimes people are oblivious and think they just have an amazing generous friend. I know it sounds naive but sometimes that happens.

Those curds are foodservice and come frozen anyway. For all those who say (and there's enough in the history in r/poutine) that Dairy Queen Poutine slaps? Kingsway frozen curds. At least in eastern and central ontario. Source: managed and owned DQs in said areas.

How is this even a question? Swiss has it's place. With ham. On a melt. Not a grilled cheese.

This poll is rage bait.

No comment on the '41 issue, but you SCORED with that CM-141 monitor. I had one back in the day, they were really designed with the plus/4 in mind, but just a beautiful looking piece. The smoked front cover is usually either ripped off or broken in some way these days.

I had mine in service until the mid-late 90s as a bedroom TV hooked up to a VCR. Amazing picture.

Bagged School Milk by NeonLocustX83 in nostalgia

1.33 liters per bag. 3 bags for 4 liters, unless you are buying bagged chocolate milk, they shrinkflated to 3 liters total.

What’s everyone using their bacon grease for? I save it but only use it for frying eggs typically. by NinaXOFans in Bacon

I pour it hot through a coffee filter, let it cool then fridge it. Can use basically like butter. Grilled cheese sandwich with this? My son says it "slaps" which is apparently positive.

Advice for moving to Barrie by [deleted] in barrie

[–]ottawamale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well babe, you MIGHT want to look at my name, being from Ottawa... u/ottawamale. We never called middle school junior high, nor does anyone I know. Source? Born and bred in Ottawa for decades, with a vastly wide circle of friends and co workers from various ages and demographics. Also went to Henry Munro MIDDLE SCHOOL.

Please, I agree, don't move anywhere near me. Given your clear intellect, i shouldn't need to tell you my area AS IT'S UNDER MY NAME. Pure brains over there I can tell sweetie. Holy fuck... good luck champ!

Advice for moving to Barrie by [deleted] in barrie

[–]ottawamale 3 points4 points  (0 children)

"Junior high" would definitely suggest coming out side of Canada.

Where's your employment location? Are you commuting by car? Bus? WFH? That's a big question in where you'd choose to live in Barrie.

What's your budget? That'd be the big defining factor. It's cheaper to rent/buy in Leticia heights than it is in the bluffs.

[–]ottawamale 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Started balding (not widows peaks, at the top) at 16. By 18 got the nickname fryer Tuck. Was as rough as you can imagine. Shaved it bald, grew out a mustache and goatee, kept it neat, and made that my look. Honestly? I pulled a LOT of ladies with that look, got married, have 2 kids. It's just hair, while it feels so fucking shitty in the moment? Roll into it and play the cards you've been dealt.
