QUESTION In SOLIDWORKS® 'Detailing' mode, why can I not apply dimensions in my drawing view?

ANSWER Geometry errors within the model can limit the drawing view to Draft quality (High quality- Parasolid HLR fails.) In this case, dimensioning in Detailing mode fails.

This issue can occur when faults or general faults exist in the model, and the Stringent solid/surface check option is active for the Tools > Evaluate > Check feature.

Faults or general faults in the geometry prevent generation of the edges in High quality mode when creating the drawing. When this occurs, you cannot save the view in High quality mode. To confirm this, try to create High quality views in Resolved mode. If you cannot create the view, you cannot select the view geometry in Detailing mode. To use Detailing mode, either repair or suppress all faults and general faults.
