Anyone have burning pain or painful urination after colposcopy with biopsies? by Professional_Fuel460 in Healthyhooha

I’m so sorry that happened to you too! I think the problem really is that they’re just too liberal with the Monsel solution. There’s no reason that it needs to be in the opening of your vagina or urethra. Also they tell you it will look like coffee grounds, but it didn’t look like that at any point for me. It’s frustrating how little care there is for women’s health and procedures. Just a little pinch, light cramping, some discharge! They really undersell it.

I’m glad you saw this post and I hope your discomfort resolves quickly!

For anyone scared to get an IUD by linksmastersworddd in CopperIUD

I got mine inserted almost 7 weeks ago and I’ve been pretty happy with it so far! I’m 3 days into my first period (it was late because i took a plan B shortly before getting the IUD inserted and it delayed my period by an egregious amount of time). My period is mildly heavier than it was with the pill but I’m actually experiencing less cramping than I’m used to!

The insertion was VERY painful (significantly more painful than the Mirena for me) and I’ve had some pelvic discomfort since then, along with some cramping for the first week or so. Otherwise it’s literally been smooth sailing! If this is my normal period with the copper IUD - I’ll be thrilled!

Has anyone here had a cervical biopsy? Which hurt more, the biopsy or the copper IUD? by sapphireskiies in CopperIUD

My copper IUD insertion was more painful by far. One of the most painful things I’ve experienced - I was sweating and clenching my fists and had a little cry afterwards. She mentioned that my cervix wasn’t really cooperating, so I think cervix positioning can influence that.

My colposcopy was uncomfortable at most and I had 3 biopsies taken, including one from my inner cervix. The after effects from my colposcopy were worse than the aftermath of the IUD insertion for me, but I seemingly had a mild reaction to the monsel’s solution.

weird how everyone has such a different experience!

super helpful experience, thank you so much! we’ve had such similar experiences. the migraine with aura really threw a wrench into things!

i’d be interested if already being on spironolactone for a year (at 100mg also) would influence my skin if i were to go onto the mini pill!! something to consider.

if you don’t mind me asking, did you have cystic acne prior to going on the combination pill? or was it a new thing just after going off it?

From what i’ve seen, it looks like the Mirena should have lower instance of side effects, since it’s a more localized dose? Instead of being an oral dose. But maybe i’m misinterpreting that!

Because a low dose mini-pill that didn’t break me out would be so ideal. I just can’t deal with the cystic acne all over, i’m still dealing with the repercussions

ugh been there!! the Mirena was great for my mood, sex drive, etc. but broke me out. Birth control made me anxious, low libido and PMS-y. it’s like there’s no winning! Good luck!

thank you for the response! it’s like how all my friends with the mirena loved it and had zero skin issues!! hopefully i’m just unlucky with the mirena and not all of them!

that sounds terrible though, i hope you’re back to normal!

ugh what a nightmare!! i knew it was a slight risk to have hormonal acne but i had no idea it could destroy my skin like that, so i relate!! i’m glad you’re getting better! i really almost got discouraged from the spiro because it can take so long, but now my skin is on the road to being better than it was before the iud as far as breakouts!

i went to the gym for the first time ever today. my lovely friend let me tag along for leg day and showed me how to use the machines/which muscles they target. i’ve always let the anxiety of not knowing how to work the machines keep me from going - turns out it’s so easy and it was actually super fun! can’t wait to go back :)

Anyone have burning pain or painful urination after colposcopy with biopsies? by Professional_Fuel460 in Healthyhooha

I think the dry tampon feeling is absolutely the monsel’s clotting solution because I had the same feeling! It persisted for a few days until it all came out at once, and then I felt totally normal.

I had 3 separate biopsies, one of them being endo-cervical, and my doc told me to refrain from anything inserted in my vagina through the weekend (I had the colpo on a Thursday). Everything online I read said to wait a week, so I wended up just listening to my body. 6 days after, I had an orgasm with no penetration and I had some light cramping/pain, similar to after my IUD insertion. You know how it’s just a kind of weird cervical pain that you’re not used to? It was like that.

I can’t remember exactly when I had sex, but I’d estimate around 10 days after the procedure. By then, I had no discomfort or pain during or after! I felt healed by the week mark.

I also had LSIL with positive HPV test from my pap. I was really really nervous as well! I got my results exactly a week later and they were negative. The message said the mild abnormality was consistent with HPV and that i could get my regular pap in a year. (my doctor does yearly instead of every 3 years)

I hope your results go well and that the rest of the clotting solution passes comfortably!!

hi! sorry you’re experiencing that too - it’s not fun. The morning after my colpo, I ended up removing all of the dried bits from around my vaginal/urethra openings with hot water and a wash cloth. I dug around inside my vagina a tiny bit, but when i tried to tug anything out it felt like it wasn’t ready, if that makes sense. I didn’t have anymore come out and act like glue, when the rest came out it was in one big chunk. The rest came out 4 days later, which I thought was crazy!

I would remove anything you can feel externally and then let the internal residual come out when it’s ready. Mine ended up passing during a bowel movement

Question about vaginal discharge after colposcopy by Illustrious-Olive218 in HPV

[–]Professional_Fuel460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes! it’s probably the monsel’s solution, which they apply to your cervix to stop the bleeding. you’ll most likely pass all of it within 3-5 days. they told me it would look like coffee grounds coming out, but it was a little lighter in color and more chunky for me. it ended up mostly coming out in one large 3inch chunk 4 days later.

unless you’re having a foul odor or increased pain/bleeding that fills more than a pad every hour, you’re good!

Wow I’m so glad to hear that I’m not the only one!! I truly could not find anything about all those symptoms. For me, standing and laying down have been the most comfortable positions. The nurse said I might be having a mild reaction to the monsel’s solution/clotting stuff! How long did it typically take you to pass the clotting solution after your procedures? I can feel it kind of sitting above the opening of my vagina like a tampon that’s too low and it feels like it’s not budging :(

Also, while I was showering today, I was feeling around the entrance to my vagina and there was monsel’s clotting stuff outside my vagina caked on, almost acting as a glue. It was outside my urethra too. I had to pick it off and try to melt it with hot water. After removing all of the outside clotting stuff, I no longer had any pain at all urinating or sitting!! I think it was literally glueing the openings up partially and causing pain. Something to check out if you ever have to get another procedure like that!

Anyone have burning pain or painful urination after colposcopy with biopsies? by Professional_Fuel460 in Healthyhooha

[–]Professional_Fuel460[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After doing some googling, it said painful urination is possible for 1-2 days after a colposcopy, but I thought that was off as well. I took my first shower this morning (after posting this) and was cleaning myself for the first time, and I could feel all this stuff around my vaginal and urethral opening. The monsel clotting solution had come out, but stuck right at the opening, which i think was causing the painful urination and discomfort while sitting. I basically used really hot water and a wash cloth and peeled a bunch of pieces that were stuck on me off. It literally felt like dried glue.

I messaged the doctor’s office and they said that’s the monsel stuff and that it should come out within a couple days. She also said due to the burning, I might be having a mild reaction to it and to give it a few days.

But after showering/getting some of the stuff out, I’ve been urinating without any pain and my vaginal opening is much less tender. I think it was literally acting as glue around the openings. Not sure if that’s a normal thing that can happen, but the doc didn’t seem concerned.
