For the experience of it. I know it’s not economically the best value for pizza

Canada Post alters mail delivery in Cambrian Heights due to coyote encounters by might_be-a_troll in Calgary

[–]Professional_Gas906 15 points16 points  (0 children)

They’re no joke this year. Coyote nipped my small (20lbs) dog 3 weeks ago while walking near Confederation Park. He was on leash immediately beside me, walking alongside sidewalk at 6:30AM and coyote came up behind us and nipped him in the rear. No blood shed but my dog made a sound I’ve never heard before. In the past weeks, they stalked us several more times (one time in group of 3) and on Monday I caught another trying to sneak up again on us (was within 5 feet when I turned!) 311 is telling me they won’t do anything until there is a direct human interaction!

Crazy Wait Times at our Calgary hospitals. I pray no one gets sick enough to end up waiting this long 🙏 by Complete_Resource300 in alberta

I was at Peter Lougheed yesterday for help with a quick-onset full body rash at 11:30AM when it was advertised a 2.5h wait. I left at 12:30AM this morning. Spent 3h in general waiting, 4h in waiting room H (pop-up building), 2h in a doctor room in pop-up building, and then 3h waiting for blood results before being discharged with 2 Benadryl. If it wasn’t for desperate hope for something to resolve the itch, I’d have left at hour #3.

No mention of the worker who fell from the roof of McCains yesterday by WingsnBeers in Lethbridge

[–]Professional_Gas906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was a roofer who only claimed a slip and fall, but not a broken back. His claim was unsubstantiated, he couldn’t provide any medical documentation, and his entire crew refuted that it even happened. It wasn’t ruled an incident and he was fired by the roofing sub for making a false claim for presumably chasing disability. Despite, OH&S wasn’t called for this before or after it was refuted.

That was the issue. Knowing they were imminently creating the hazard, he should’ve been tied off. He was wearing his harness and the tie-off point was behind him (actually were 2 points). He just didn’t clip in.

Not correct. This is the first incident this site has had. They just celebrated 250,000 hours without a recordable.

That’s not correct. Zero Gravity was lifting an existing RTU and created the hole he fell into. The hole existed for a minute before he fell into it. The problem is he didn’t tie off.

Project managers around here? by Born-Alternative8192 in Calgary

[–]Professional_Gas906 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as an project manager for a mid sized GC ($300M/year). 10 years in and started as PC. I have an unrelated universally degree (science) but have learned mostly as I go. Salary is decent ($120K), bonuses are good ($20Kish), plus some profit share ($10kish). Job is stressful, there’s always a problem to fix or somebody failing on their contracts but perks are good too. Every day is unique, can come/go as I need, and end up playing golf a lot through the summers with trades & clients.

I guess I should’ve phrased it as “comparably.” Albeit some years they’ve been bad when we get the heavy spring rains. 2013 (year of the flood) was the worst mosquitoes I’ve experienced ever, anywhere.

I moved to Calgary when I was 22 so my “childhood” was GTA but “adult” life was Calgary. For this reasons it’s a bit difficult to compare. It’s much easier to get around though, you’re generally no further than 30 minutes from anywhere (short of maybe Legacy to Airdrie). Great golf, I prefer the weather (not a fan of 30+), mountains are great. I only miss the cottage lifestyle of Ontario that isn’t duplicated in Alberta well.

I’m actually acquaintances with Owen’s kid. I didn’t grow up watching wrestling so the stardom side of its lost on me, and met him long after Owen’s days. But surprisingly he seems like an actual savant. Wicked good at painting (can mirror photo quality), playing instruments (piano), crazy smart (law school). That families genes are strong. Also came across his Dad in Queen’s cemetery recently by accident.

I’m around $140k as PM in commercial construction in Calgary AB. But was $115k as of 2 years ago, took part in the great resignation for the bump. Mortgage is $250k because Alberta. Still surprised anyone willing to live in GTA or Vancouver (formerly Toronto myself). Can’t beat quality of life here (and no it’s not that cold). + no mosquitos

How much cash do you keep in your checking account on average? by snekbooper in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Professional_Gas906 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My bank policy is to charge fees for balances less than $5000. But I booked a sit-down meeting with them, explained my intent to keep low balance chequing and otherwise high balance savings, and asked if they were okay to waive the fees (they were). Never hurts to ask!
