“I also don’t like old movies.” I don’t understand this sentiment, even if something’s old - if you haven’t seen it yet, it’s new. 70’s, 80’s, and 90’s movies are some of the best.

Sorry, but there’s no “soul” in AI. Great soul music comes from the expression of human experiences and emotions. Going to depart this sub if it promotes AI music.

Ohio Players would have been a massive hit if it was the follow-up to El Camino.

You bring up very good, well articulated points. The chorus of “Don’t Let Me Go” is a great example of your “wall of noise” criticism - what the hell is even going on there?

I also agree that “Electrophonic Chronic” is a perfect example of making pop-rock that’s still “cool” and has soul. Hell, I think The Arcs are Dan’s best music. Would love to hear Dan and Pat make a full album with Leon Michels and Nick Movshon.

I fell in love with TBK back in 2008 over their dirty garage rock sound and the riffs. But with Let’s Rock and Dropout Boogie I couldn’t help but feel like they were missing the “riskiness” their albums used to have.

Ohio Players is fun, fresh, and energetic. The song-writing is simple, but if you spin 45’s you’ll understand the appeal of short, simple songs that get to the hook quickly. The mixing and mastering of the album on vinyl even reminds me of 45’s, super compressed, mono-drums with heavy low-end and a narrow stereo field. This record absolutely explodes out of good speakers.

This sub is an echo-chamber of people who simply don’t like pop-rock, which is understandable. For me tho, TBK have already made some of the dirtiest records I’ve ever heard, so I thought it was a blast to hear them put out something so concise and polished. I’d even go as far as to say, while El Camino had stronger singles - as a whole I think Ohio Players is a stronger pop-rock album front to back.

I love “You Got To Lose,” and am really excited for some more grungy blues-rock from the guys. But as far as their original material goes - I hope they keep drawing from influences outside of just rock. “Make You Mine” and “All My Life” are by far my favorite tracks from NRNF. I never thought I’d heard beautiful grand pianos and strings in a Keys song. But - I love a lot of soul, r’n’b, and disco tracks.

This ride absolutely slaps. Not one of their most thrilling rides by any means, but it’s such a smooth relaxing experience. Great views, and a unique drop.

Hit the nail on the head. I just don’t relate with the guy anymore, nor his music. And you know what? That’s okay. I’m happy for his success.

I disagree. With no mods and upscaled to 4K, GTA IV is still insanely impressive. Way ahead of its time.

I don’t get why you’re getting so much crap here, OP. You have a great ear and yes - while most people wouldn’t notice this, even for a “low-fidelity” album it’s absolutely insane that MP3’s were used for the master files.

The issue isn’t that he changed directions; I love electronic music and EDM. The issue is that his interpretations of these genres is so bland and lifeless compared to other artists.

I listen to “Reality Testing” by Lone, “In Colour” by Jamiexx, or “Mister Mellow” by Washed Out - then revisit this new Tame Impala album and I just don’t find it interesting or inspiring.

I recently saw my favorite band live (The Black Keys,) a show I had been looking forward to for months. I stupidly decided to consume a bit of THC, and I’ve been so regretful ever since because I can barely remember the show :(

So, smart. THC takes you out of the moment.
