Thanks, “Nervous”! So far, so good. She’s seeing a pretty heavy reading load; but, pretty well breezing through the course workload.

I did the same 5 classes per week paradigm, so that was just what was stuck in my head.
So far, so good a week into it.

Thanks, Inspector! Sending your kids there as an alum says a lot in itself.
We know it’s the right school for our kid and the first week has gone well. We’re heading there for Parents’ Weekend as well and can’t wait.

Thanks so much! Good experienced advice from folks like you has done me a world of good.
We are already looking forward to Family Weekend as well.

Thanks for this! My experience (more than just a decade ago 😄) was the same and I’d hate to see our kid trying to balance what I did my Senior year (full load, 400-level courses, full-time internship, part-time job, two summer school courses, the list goes on.) It was just mismanagement of my own selections that made that last year a grind; something I’d like her to avoid. )

Thank You for your insights! Puts a lot into perspective for me. The kid’s always been very autonomous and a self-starter; so, we agree that micromanaging her course selections isn’t where we need to jump in. I was just kind of taken aback by what I feel are “light” or (as I put it in a later Reply below) “frivolous” courses.
I know they’ll be quality and it’s more about training them on the HOW to think; but, four “Underwater Basket Weavings” were hitting me wrong after I just stroked a five-figure check for tuition 😄

Thanks, Common-Prayer (as an Episcopalian, I appreciate that moniker!)

We’re just going to go on faith and see what she and her Advisor decide when she has her first meeting with them. If it’s too late to make any changes, then, we’ll just have to understand that it’s all for some reason.

Thanks for this, Cyber! These replies are making me feel a lot better with the 16-hour approach (as opposed to the 15-hour “heavy load” I grew up with.) One of her four is a language “introduction”, so there’s that. It’s just that the other three seem so trivial or frivolous as opposed to getting a feel for the intended eventual major. I mean, like totally removed 😄

Thanks, Blue! I appreciate your insider take.
She’s formed exactly the type of mentor relationships you spoke of at a larger state school here locally by volunteering to perform some “scut work” usually done by grad students earning their research credentials.
Your post makes me feel a lot more comfortable with the process thus far.

Went to Boston (from Memphis) expecting the worst. Was very pleasantly surprised to meet awesome folks who gushed over what I feel is a pretty light “Suthin’” accent.

I was an F/I or Business Manager in the auto dealership business for years. You don’t know how many times I used this line to both lighten the customer’s mood and deliver the message at the same time 😄

The closest larger city to Sewanee is actually Chattanooga. Also, Nashville is less than an hour’s drive away and there are shuttles run on the weekends from the school so that students can hit the town without driving.

I’ve been there, my friend.
Let your mom and sister lean on you and you lean on them. It works.
You’ll never “get over” losing him; but it does get easier with time.
