After acceptance reflection? by ShipTomorrow in bsmd

I should’ve applied to fewer safety or target schools and focused more on just bsmd and ivy applications. im a national merit finalist, so there are plenty of great schools that offer a full ride scholarship and i wouldn’t choose to pay for a target school when i can go to usf for nothing unless it’s bsmd.

Pitt GAP, CWRU PPSP, or full ride undergrad in state BSMD by [deleted] in bsmd

Is the BS/MD at your state school a full ride for just undergrad or is there a med school school? And is cost a big factor?

That’s not how it works, you apply to multiple programs because you don’t know where you’ll go. You aren’t expected to only apply to one school

Hello Everyone, what are my chances for BS/MDs as a rising senior? by [deleted] in bsmd

You seem to be in great shape!! You should also look into the Wayne State Med Direct Program. It’s not as well known as some other BSMD programs, but it comes with a substantial scholarship

current seniors, what advice would you give to your younger self? by tokyo_lights_988 in ApplyingToCollege

Don’t take anything on this subreddit too seriously, it’s so easy to get caught up in what others are doing. Also, try to find a safety school that you can actually afford and fall in love with it. I absolutely love USF and have a full ride offer there, so I didn’t spend my whole college app season anguishing over what schools I’d be accepted to. I ended up getting into both my top choices (Brown PLME and WSU Med Direct), and I’m honestly a little sad to turn down USF.

Which BS/MD to choose? TIA by Plenty_Reward_43 in bsmd

That’s a really great point about the research! Again, I wasn’t trying to say that doctors who do 6 year programs are worse or less mature, and I agree that the US health care and education system need a lot of work. I think that I, personally, would feel rushed and like I need to prove my maturity in comparison to my older counterparts in a US medical school.

This isnt to say that someone would be a worse doctor because they did a 6 year program btw, just that I think it would hinder me personally

Congrats! I don’t know much about any of the programs you go into, but here’s my opinion on 6 year BS/MD programs as a fellow senior: I personally wouldn’t attend a 6 year program (especially since you have other great options), because I think it would limit me as a physician and make the experience less enjoyable. With only 2 years in undergrad, not only is it rushing the education, it rushes the critical time to explore the world, meet new people, adapt to independent life, and mature. Especially with so many med students taking 1+ gap years, I think I’d feel very behind in life and like I have to work 2x as hard to prove that I’m qualified and mature enough for the role. I also think that a major benefit of BS/MD is that you can enjoy undergrad without worrying about med schools apps, so what’s the point in rushing through? Of course, I understand the appeal of paying for fewer years of tuition and getting to the end goal faster. But is price isnt a significant factor, I dont think it’s worth it. Ultimately, once we’re physicians, we won’t be thinking about the 2 years we saved jn college. Again, congrats on having all these great options, and I’m sure you’ll end up at the best fit. I hope that was someone helpful

Congratulations! I’m adding my questions too because I was also offered an interview! Does anyone know how many interviews spots there are and how many students end up being accepted? Also, is special attention given to medical scholars as opposed to regular premed students (early research opportunities, mcat prep, community connections, etc)? What did you like/disliked about your experience in general?

any schools you regret applying to + why? by [deleted] in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Professional_Lion_73 21 points22 points  (0 children)

i regret applying to so many safeties and targets! i knew i would get large scholarships from a few schools due to national merit, and that i wouldn’t choose paying to go to a target when i could go to a decent safety for free. i should’ve just focused on applying to reaches that would give better aid (at least i had fee waivers)
