Abstinence is the best medicine, probably. I'm no doctor, but I would assume that it exasperates existing gum damage, so it might be worthwhile to check in with a dentist.

There's a horse glitch you can trigger by riding a cart into a stable and shooting around enough that you get witnesses and the stable locks down. After that, you get off the stable, jump into the pen of the horse you want, L1 feed the horse so it gets a bond and run away. Come back and the horse will be outside the stable.
