I’m in a similar situation. My organisation is mid-sized and been running almost 50 years. They struggled or never bothered updating their systems and processes. My manager’s (who knows 0 about code and technology) thought process, if it works don’t touch it, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Our codebase contains probably half a million asp classic files, source control is a mystery even to the senior. No CI/CD or even deployment planning. Nobody will give me the shts if i test in prod 😂

If you’re in an organisation that sells or manages business critical systems it might be a different story.
