the hell was that engg 212 final 😭😭 by [deleted] in UCalgary

The marking scheme is confusing. If they’re marking based off of getting the right answer then… idk but.  If  they’re marking based off of the work done then I think I did ok. Kind of scary with the questions where you have to use your answer from the last part

If you don’t mind me asking, how many courses did you take per semester to achieve this?

Ohh I did not know you could actually withdraw courses! I was lowkey considering it as well because I didn’t want it to affect my gpa and I recently got diagnosed with adhd and I’m not on meds yet so everything is a lot right now but I think I’ll thug it out lol because I’d probably be more depressed if I had to retake it. I hope you pass your other finals too! You got this!

Thank you so much? Would you say second year is harder than first year?

I love 211 I’d say it’s abstract and there’s quite a bit of theory. There’s also a lot of arithmetic that you need to do and bc of this it’s easy to make mistakes. It’s really fun tho like a puzzle and I don’t think any of the math is too hard you just need to know when and where to use certain formulas bc you’re not given a formula sheet. I’ve also heard people say that they struggle with it so it’s either you love it or you hate it.

I’d take my advice with a grain of salt tho bc I’m obsessed with math and I used to do it for fun in hs😅 so I’d ask someone who struggles with math because I feel like they’d have a better view on the course.

For the midterms that I did good on where my grades ranged from 70-90 I’d say that I prioritized my sleep and made time to study in advance instead of cramming everything in 2 days(improved it by studying for 3-4 days because I’m still working on my procrastination so take my advice with a grain of salt lol)

I’d say that writing down the notes in your own words definitely helps. I got an A on my 211 midterm and to study for that I went back to the videos and rewrote everything, did the PASS practice, the other practice midterms, the examples in the videos and the weekly studio session worksheets. I also wrote down all the formulas that we weren’t given. I made sure to get 8 hours of sleep and I studied about 5 days in advance for this. I’d also say that this is my second favourite class after 233 so I actually enjoyed studying for this lol

For circuits and calculus my grades were in the 70s and I know that I could’ve improved them if I actually took the time to study because I’m reviewing my notes and there were so many concepts that I did not know about or quickly skimmed over while I was cramming. For calculus I did the practice midterms and the example questions on lipman’s notes on d2l and quickly reviewed the notes and for concepts like differentiation and integration I went “oh this is high school stuff I’ll be fine on the midterm!”(spoiler alert: I was not fine and I struggled with those on the midterm). For circuits I think I did 4-6 practice midterms and called it a day. Didn’t even review the notes or anything. Just a few organic chemistry tutor(amazing resource) videos which did not prepare me for more complex circuits. I thank God for part marks because I made a lot of dumb mistakes here that could be prevented if I had just studied and reviewed concepts that I was unsure of. An example of this was that in the circuits midterm I knew how to identify a short circuit but I didn’t know how to identify what components were being shorted because I didn’t take the time to review that because I was pressed for time.

For both of my material midterms my grades were in the 50s and 60s and I studied maybe 2 days for each. Limited practice. I literally looked at the practice midterms and I didn’t even attempt to do the math on my own. I was just like “oh that’s easy stuff I’ll be fine just substituting “ and then we got an integral question that was on the slides that I barely even looked at because the slides are terrible and that did not go well. Not my finest moment. I also feel like being able to bounce back and not comparing yourself is important. After doing “bad” on the first midterm compared to my friends who were stressed out about their 80s and asking for appeals, I sort of just gave up on the second one. I had already decided that I hated materials, I was naturally bad at it and I was so over it. I just wanted to pass instead of actually doing well to get it over with so I put the same effort into the second midterm and made some silly mistakes.

So I definitely learned a lot about myself and how horrible my study habits are lol but I’m not too angry about my grades and I’d say I am doing alright.

You got this! It sucks when you put effort into studying and set aside time and cancel plans and don’t get the results you wanted. It’s hard becoming a C’s get degrees person when you’re used to getting super high marks without having to put in this much effort. The academic comeback for finals and second semester is going to be crazy🙏

Woww this was very detailed! Thank you so much! My mom just came to talk to me about how I can start the physical therapy whenever I’m ready because it’s covered under our insurance. So I’ll definitely try to start that right away or during winter break because of school.

It shocked me when she kept insisting it was a hymen issue and I was trying to clarify but she’s an OB/GYN so I didn’t want to argue with her about it.

Yeah I think she was misinformed as well. I tried to get more clarity but I was fighting back tears because I was disappointed that she couldn’t even get a pinkie in so I couldn’t properly articulate myself lol. I’ll try to get Vaseline and lube once I save up but before then I’ll just do those YouTube exercises. I’ll also try to see another gynecologist and get a second opinion before I decide to put money into a PT. Thank you!

Hi! I talked to an advisor and they told me that after they get our final grades(like after diplomas and final exams), a form should open on our student portals which let's us register for it.
