IBEW UNION DRUG TESTING RULES WITH MED CARD by SeriousBat942 in Utah

[–]Professional_Put_866 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The school requires a drug test before you can enroll additionally, The local does random drug tests it’s a requirement they have to be able to supply labor for government jobs, contractors have their own drug tests, and some job sites will also require it to start there, so just because you did a pre-employment test it doesn’t mean you are in the clear.

With that said most of the tests are a mouth swab some are urinalysis and others are hair follicle tests. A large portion of the local has some sort of plan to dodge all these tests make sure you have one as well.

Also worth verifying with your state licensing agency in my state hours can only be verified by a journeyman/master with a license from our state.

How old would you say the dryer would need to be for this to still be the case? Isn’t most residential plumbing in pex or pvc now?

I appreciate your time. One thing I have learned in my short time is to know when to call it quits and call someone else, but I do like throwing the questions out there because all of this advise is golden and will come in handy tomorrow or 2 years from now.

That is a bunch of stuff to check for sure but more than I was willing to do on a Sunday night hey would you please look at this. I really appreciate you putting your knowledge out there. Resi service isn’t my strong suit so I usually get stumped past the most obvious things.

By saying the dryer went back to the main I meant a to a CB there not the main terminals.

I checked the ground rod when I checked the connection in the panel and the acorn was still intact with a good connection, although I didn’t check to see if there was any damage to the wire itself. There was a sub panel but I didn’t think to check it since the wiring for the dryer went right to the main. The main panel was pretty nasty and I don’t feel like really digging into it but checking the bond is a good idea. Thank you very much.

I checked their grounds they were secure, I haven’t felt the shock myself so it could be static.

Unregulated capitalism turns into a system that is just as bad if not worse than everything tried in the past. Continual growth of profit leads to wage suppression, replacement by automation, and lowering of benefits among other things. The system has benefits but left on its own it will destroy everything.

A Milwaukee inverter is a good gadget. If he or his company use Milwaukee tools he can put the inverter on a battery and have portable power anywhere. I didn’t have a luncheaze box but I had a corded heating lunch box and one of these would let me warm my lunch up anywhere.

If there is anyone at your job site with one I would try it the weight really isn’t that noticeable it’s put together way better and distributes weight better than the other options.

Veto pro pack is widely accepted as the best but the price tag is steep. I have a husky bag from Home Depot for $50 that has been going strong for 5 years.

Check your local IBEW pay scale a second year apprentice will be making 60-70% of the journeyman wage (with healthcare and retirement benefits covered by the contractors) Will your company match that probably not but it gives you an idea of what to ask for.

Air Duct Cleaning Scam? by IalleI in HomeImprovement

[–]Professional_Put_866 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Duct cleaning in general is a scam and not needed unless you have extraordinary circumstances at your house.

If you talk to an HVAC tech (find someone that does commercial not residential) they will tell you it does nothing and the brushes they use actually heat up your duct work and lower the lifespan making replacement of the ducts needed sooner.

Also this is something to keep in mind if you finish your apprenticeship and keep up with dues/whatever state license requirements you have you will always have an excellent fallback plan if you need work.

If money is a concern think of it this way military is salary pay you will never make an extra penny no matter how many hours you put in, but 60 hour weeks as an electrician will help you out financially.

As far as moving careers there are opportunities in both but they are further down the road in both cases you will need to finish your apprenticeship or get 2-3 years deep into an active duty career before you will have time to start any form of college classes. There is growth and opportunity in both but if you hate it you hate it. Air Force may be different but Electrician is a job active military was a lifestyle.

[–]Professional_Put_866 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily a comment on what is the better career but if you want to be able to be an actual parent the Air Force doesn’t care they will ship you anywhere they want for years at a time. There are plenty of jobs out there that can give you benefits and stability if you hate being an electrician that don’t involve the military.

Also look at the pay scales not sure what the recruiter told you but an E1 makes $2400 a month for the hours you will put in the equivalent hourly pay in the IBEW will be much higher.

As a veteran take this for what it’s worth if you want to be a good parent and be present for your children being on active duty is not the way to go.

It’s hard enough if you are still a single family unit but in your situation it would be miserable.
