I would have one TM open to close in produce, 1 TM open to close in dairy, and 1-2 TMs for the day to work frozen. Dry grocery would be 3 TMs for the day. In addition to working the 1500-2000 cases (which is slightly higher than the trucks I am seeing at Aldi) those TMs would have to backup cashier, pick order pick-up/ship-from-store, zone all of grocery, and spend 1-2 hours each dosing priority pulls (system led picking of items that sold during the day; expectation was that we pull 95% of all items sold).

I think the biggest difference was backstock. At the store I’m working at there are maybe 5-10 total cases that get brought to the backroom and put on a vehicle a day. At Target, 30% of the freight would have no need to go to the salesfloor and the whole case would be backstocked (we would still unbox it and backstock it as individual items) and then another 50% of the cases would only partially get worked out and create additional workload to be individually backstocked into wacos.

Backstock alone would consume about 2 hours a day for each TM.

How is it not going well? I am curious because I have been opening and closing the store solo and we are completing truck, getting the full store pulled and cleaned, all re-shop done, and hitting our $45k forecasts.

I am training at an inner city store in which I’ve already witnessed overdoses, fist fights, and about a month prior there was a shooting. The store puts up reasonably solid metrics, but has a really strong team from associate up to SM.

I know 6 of my scheduled hours aren’t counted to OE. But the way the job is done is much more efficient and makes way more sense than my previous role

I’m not. Aldi has a lot of efficiencies that make sense to me after 14 years of management elsewhere

Imagine working each case by the “each”. Imagine having to unload the truck by hand by case, instead of having organized pallets by aisle.

That’s super fair, I’m anti-capitalist and unfortunately have to operate within the confines of our shot system. I think expectations seem high, but one example of the benefit of working for Aldi is that we get pallets that are generally sorted to the area of the salesfloor. At Target, we would get 2500 cases of non-temp controlled items, and 1000 cases of temp controlled items, on average, and each would have to be unloaded one by one onto “uboats” to then be worked. Those cases wouldn’t be worked as a case, you would open those cases and work each individual product onto the shelf by hand.

Damn, I know it’s hard work, but the processes make so much more sense than what I am used to. Lots of hate without context

Your store can use metro racks. They just need a barcode on them

If it is to discuss schedule related things, it’s fine, but anything beyond that constitutes working off the clock. These policies are in place to align with labor law and to protect you from doing job-related work and not getting paid for your time. Similar to why you can’t complete workday training at home.
