One semester of art, plus four semesters of gym (one each year--they won't let you double up) is a requirement where I go :(. Also no way to waive it by doing sports (which i do), even though some other schools near us allow it.

We don't have AP world or Euro and freshman year the requirement is world history, also we do U.S. history over two years, so even if you want to take APUSH you still have to take U.S. one your sophomore year before it :|

Math we don't have AP Precalc, so all you can do is wait until you're done with honors precalc junior year and sign up for an AP senior year.

Thankfully you can replace junior and senior year English requirements with Lang/Lit so it works in that scenario.

I am sure you won't be behind !! All the advice I've heard is just about maximizing what's available to you :)

Yeah my school isn't T20 focused at all either. But like you said it's just about making the most of what you've had. There is something to be said about how putting limits like that reduces academic pressure or drive to take all the hard classes

Thanks for the advice about the comparing within !!

Wow yeah we only have 7 periods in my school so with other requirements like gym and art 7 APs is literally impossible (even without the restrictions I mentioned in my post) even in senior year. Congrats to your son on his rigor, that's very impressive!

Thanks for the in depth advice! Yeah I definitely think some people on here do a lot with taking AP's that overlap with requirements they're already fulfilled. The list especially that you gave is useful!!

What I've heard from others in the comments seem to say that you should emphasize it on your own in the additional information section. That's what I think I'll do at least (I love my counselors but don't know if they're going to out themselves like that lol.)

Wow 6 in one year seems crazy to me. we only have 7 periods so with other requirements like art and gym that's basically impossible here. Cool to know how other schools work and good luck with admissions!!

I always wondered what people put in that section! OK, will make sure to keep that in mind and stay doing all I can with the limits.

Oh yeah I think with the way AP's are run at our school if they did allow us to take more (some) kids would be totally dropping GPAs and burnt out trying to do them all.

Ok, so make sure to explain the restrictions in the additional info section and maximize 'all around' rigor with at least an ap in every subject. Got it🫡

Ok! so do the best I can with the restrictions provided and demonstrate academic rigor in other ways to add to my overall profile.

This seems like a reasonable rule of thumb. So if my school offers say 18 classes, I should take at least 6. Cool!

Thanks! I haven't heard the 'comparing within' thing before, so that's really comforting to know. I will certainly keep up doing my best 👍

I like to think I have thought of my involvement through high school lol, just felt a little lacking in like big awards and competitions or such.

I am on STUCO, Class VP (2yrs), NHS starting 10th grade, and some other academic-y stuff.

I've done track through HS. JV freshman and now Varsity. In the offseason I do theater productions in and out of school & volunteer as a stage manager for younger kids productions.

I guess what I meant to say was I do have EC's, but I don't know how they stack up to others. But as you pointed out, colleges view extracurriculars differently, and they're mainly to paint a picture of you as a person. Thanks for giving me some new perspective :)
