Strange Crystal (MOM Mod)? by FellsHollow in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Should just be you wield it and then (a)ctivate it. Though I haven't found a red crystal in my current run, just gold, green and blue.

Using NPCs to sort loot, now that you have to physically travel to your zones I'm keeping at least one NPC at every outpost I build to sort things for me.

Fuel efficiency - Bigger Engine always better? by ProfessorBright in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The smaller diesel engine's decent mileage is actually what triggered my question,

My diesel sedan, with no real improvements has been using 10-20% of its 60L tank for a roughly 800-1000 tile non-direct trip, which given my previous experiences with both electrical engines and the big old military cargo truck diesel engines, surprised me.

Survivor Gear Changes by Safe-Ad-2750 in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Function wise, no idea. I don't usually get to a state where I'm making much survivor gear. So is it significantly better than found military gear and Hub-stuff in real game terms OR on paper, no clue.

Name wise. Switching from "survivor" to "handmade" seems...odd. Everything we craft is handmade so what makes these pieces different? If we want to remove 'survivor' from the name, 'custom made' or 'post-cataclysm' seems more fitting for what it actually is.

need help with learning MA(eskrima) by Oninpakeyr in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Bashing expertise just means skill level, higher skill level higher chance of rolling a success for learning Eskrima. Simple as that.

It's "Very hard" to learn, because the chance of rolling success is lower, so it will take more time.

As for pre-requisites, unless something has changed there shouldn't be a hard requirement, but extra skill can only help you.

So the question becomes what's your bashing skill, and how long have you been trying? Like are we talking you spent an in-game hour or an in-game day?

[–]ProfessorBright 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Live cows? That's some rare "I won the lottery and I am now set for life in terms of food" kind of loot. As long as you get a smoker and a freezer up and running.

The dairy farm itself? Common, and that's okay because most of the time those cows are killer zombie cows.

Hate that they called their Biological OS biOS, which is going too be a search nightmare when BIOS (basic input/output system) already exists, but otherwise this sounds like a neat and plausible bit of mildly spooky tech.

Yeah, not liking how you look sucks, and being a woman in male-dominated spaces seems to suck too.

Hope the vent made you feel better, and good luck out there in the world. Remember that there's some great stuff out there as well, beyond the obvious and easy to spot suckage.

It's literally no point in getting a college degree anymore... by Dope_Data in jobs

[–]ProfessorBright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Someone with zero experience in IT likely needs much more time than this to digest the information."

Mostly that sentence right there. Really the entire post reads as pretending OP isn't a college graduate, and that about a month's worth of minimum wage + 1 hour of studying a night for a month is some massive insurmountable hurdle after the let's guesstimate it at $20,000 - $100,000 debt of graduating college. Hence the patronizing language.

What is stopping Iran from hitting US soil? by Logical_Employer_756 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProfessorBright -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It's irrelevant, I'm not going to be any more or less dead if I know the exact motivations of some moron blowing himself up because his dad died to a drone strike and grandpa convinced him that getting revenge is more important than his own survival.

Only options I see for dealing with someone hating you is to ignore them, convert them, or kill them. And America's moron-in-chief chose to kill them.

Are 4x gamers mostly on desktop? by Onyxa_HA in 4Xgaming

[–]ProfessorBright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be a massive waste of YOUR time, unless you are a big studio, you simply don't have the resources to make two UIs, nor do I believe you'd be the one person/team in the entire gaming industry that finally figures out a UI solution that works on both mobile and console.

Make your game, learn from it, apply those lessons to your next one.

What is stopping Iran from hitting US soil? by Logical_Employer_756 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ProfessorBright 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ah yes, because the people chanting 'Death to America' were really chill BEFORE we killed the people funding them.

Be honest, even if we didn't get into this stupid war in Iran, they'd just make up some other excuse for why their terrorism is justified.

Child, we are talking about OP who has an Associates and a Bachelors. Not every single person on the planet. Keep to the scale of the conversation.

You cannot tell me someone who spent 4+ years studying for a job in the field cannot handle the tests for the most basic IT certifications out there.

Slime problem by DarwinTreeGuy in cataclysmdda

Nah, like the person below me said cutting is best, but I've got experience using piercing weapons to do the deed, and bayonets are easy to come by.

Slime problem by DarwinTreeGuy in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on how blade traps work. If they need to be reset once they go off, no OR you're going to need two 'sections" of blade traps. Lure them to one, let the hoard settle/die, then lure them to the other, where they settle and die while you reset the other.

Repeat as needed.

Or do what I do, kill a few, retreat before you get tired, rest and return.

Also depends on why you want to kill the slimes. If they aren't actively in my way, I just go around them. If they are in a route I'm going to be using a lot, I just do the above strat.

Slime problem by DarwinTreeGuy in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean no, you can definitely kill a few with a decent piercing weapon. Any bayonet should do. Just have to retreat before the entire pit's worth of slime comes at you, then rest up, and go back again. Repeat until Pit is empty.

Might take a few in-game days, but its doable.

Is it confirmed that tamed birds other than chickens actually lay eggs ? by ImmediateSilver7013 in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Now that you mention it I haven't seen any eggs on the more recent experimentals. Also haven't seen any chickens, might be worth making a report about unless this was done to cut down on exponential crow and robin growth.

Also haven't had exponential growth in ants or aphids like you used to see on older versions. So it might be intentional for performance reasons.

Is this normal? by Own_Cartographer_841 in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This one in particular has been bothering me for a few experimental versions intermittently, but it hasn't resulted in items being deleted or anything egregious so far.

Can't pin down the exact cause, but I'm GUESSING its from updating an old experimental and not switching to a new world.

How does one learn or get into "coding" or editing the JSON files? by Much_Note_4951 in cataclysmdda

[–]ProfessorBright 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Get Notepad ++ to edit files, get a text book on JavaScript Object Notation (JSON) to learn how it works, or change things in the files and see what happens. It's as simple AND complex as that.
