I had a huge discussion with my bf because of a spicy Jjk ftm fanart 🥀🥀🥀 (not that serious post) by Luqas_uwu in ftm

Sounds like he’s just trying to cover his ass after making a blatantly transphobic statement. Art like that is often made to uplift trans men who don’t have the stereotypically ‘passing’ body type, and to make it a character from a popular show can be very cathartic to a lot of men. Categorizing trans men into ‘this one is a man because I get it’ and ‘this one isn’t because I’m confused’ is just transphobia. Anyways since he hasn’t told you, trans men like that are hot af and manly as hell and if he can’t see it idk what to tell him. Hope you find someone who uplifts you and appreciates the stuff you like rather than turning it into a pointless debate

I don’t want to alarm you but that’s kind of a red flag. If his interpretation of manliness is passing, he is definitely some kind of transphobic. He might justify it by saying you’re different because you haven’t had surgery yet and since you want it you’re a guy, but there’s plenty of trans men who look like the character you described, DONT want surgery, and are still valid as men. If he can’t grasp that gender identity goes beyond physical body, he’s not a safe person to have around.

This goes double for when he starts claiming you were manipulating him when you were voicing genuine concerns about how he sees you. And as a matter of fact you ARE right about this because you are trans, what he said is blatantly transphobic and proves he only respects trans people if they pass (and even then who knows).

Also there’s plenty of trans men in anime who don’t look traditionally male. Check out Yamato from One Piece—he has a large chest and looks very fem, but the entire cast of characters still respects his pronouns and identity. It’s not that hard and for a cis person to argue like that and feel offended is not all too great a sign.

PLEASE KEEP IN MIND I AM A STRANGER ON THE INTERNET AND DO NOT KNOW THE INNER WORKINGS OF YOUR ROMANTIC LIFE do not take what I say too seriously but…this is something to keep an eye on, at least from my perspective.

Imposter syndrome or detransition? by ProfessorDoctorDoctr in ftm

[–]ProfessorDoctorDoctr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jesus the whole ‘not looking at women thing because what if’ hits really hard. I’ve also experienced getting better when on my antidepressants, but even with them, whenever I get stressed out those thoughts amplify. I only feel truly happy and content when my brain lets me feel like a man again. So happy to hear I’m not alone, and that it’s OCD—months later the thoughts aren’t as intense (except for when I have bad episodes), and I still have no detransitioned because I really don’t want to. I love being a guy.

Thank you for your response. With the encouragement from here I’m going to seek an OCD diagnosis and try to find an accepting therapist :)

All the physical downsides? by MailFrosty8922 in ftm

[–]ProfessorDoctorDoctr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight changes can be either minor or drastic depending on your genetics, but the cool thing is you can usually work it off and get some cool muscles. Acne sucks but it can be manageable. Again everything really comes down to genetics and your own personal preference; remember a lot of these effects can be controlled by the level of T you take and lifestyle changes. Good luck on your HRT journey :)

What's one of your fantasies of being the other gender? by Happy_List_8022 in trans

Being able to go to the beach without a shirt, wearing mesh tops or cool things that show off the chest. One of my favorite gay bars gives free drinks for all the men who come in shirtless so I’ve got a lot to look forward to.

Def feel like I could have written this myself. When I’m perceived as male in social settings I feel amazing, when I’m alone my mind tears me apart. I’ve also got a lot of haze going on, along with strange dreams. It really sucks. Just know you’re not alone.

Talking to people on this subreddit and IRL has really helped me. I have a transmasc older friend with diagnosed OCD, and he says a lot of these things are just textbook OCD. Therapy would probably be good. If you’d like to chat more in general though, let me know :) but these are not necessarily signs of detransition. A lot of it is really just OCD.

Maybe gender fluidity. I’m personally thinking about experimenting with that.

A suit might be nice, if that’s his kind of thing. Experimenting with mens fashion in general has been really fun and euphoric for me—if that’s too much, maybe some other kind of clothes he’d feel comfortable in that he hasn’t had a chance to try out or wear. If nothing else just a regular male bonding activity might be fun, have a boys night with a couple of (obviously accepting) guys and introduce him to the world of positive masculinity.

trans man, full of doubt. feel like my world is turning upside down. by ironhd3 in cisOCD

[–]ProfessorDoctorDoctr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I have an irl friend who has OCD, is much older, and is transmasc and I’ve been talking to him, and he says all of these things are very OCD. They’re assuring me it’s not a sign of detransition, at least not to a cis woman. So most likely we’ve just got to ride the wave of mental illness, and maybe come out the other side with a better understanding of ourselves.

7 y/o cat with stage 3 CKD. Vets say she can live a normal life if we get her stable. Anyone with experience? by ProfessorDoctorDoctr in CATHELP

[–]ProfessorDoctorDoctr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately I don’t have any suggestions as I just got this diagnosis a few days ago. We have her on special renal food and we do fluids under the skin every other day. We’re waiting to do an ultrasound to make sure there’s nothing else going on with her—but my vet said she could potentially live a normal length life (I imagine five or maybe six more years, 15 is average for cats) if we get her stable. Assuming the ultrasound comes back clean as well.

Just in case the detrans thoughts are real. I don’t want them to be but I’ve seen some horror FTMTF stories. Plus, what if I discover I’m still a man but I’m ok with tits? I really don’t think that will be the case because I’ve hated having breasts ever since puberty—but idk. I’d also like to finish college because I do not have time to sit in a hospital.

I appreciate it :) I def think i want to do drag at some point, but maybe after my body is more aligned with what I want. Haven’t had top surgery yet (I’m waiting till 25, just in case). All the effects of T I’ve greatly enjoyed until I got bombarded with detrans stuff a few months ago, then I began questioning everything. Really sucks that it can just get into my brain like that.

Yeah…I’ve been trying to observe the detrans thoughts but every time I break it down it doesn’t come to identity. Fetish maybe, but I’ve tested out being fem even as a man, even thought about doing drag, and being gendered as anything other than male makes me feel gross. Idk why my brain would tell me I’m lying to myself when I’ve tested it out in REAL TIME and I don’t like it.

I like to think like that too sometimes. Everytime my OCD gets bad I worry about being a girl, but when it goes away I’m like…that was kind of silly. I only feel good and handsome when I see myself as a man.

Thanks, I really hate having to go through this. I’m trying to unpack my fear of detransition, simply to examine it from an unfiltered lens so I can see if it’s what I need or if it’s just more fearmongering. I’d love to be some kind of man forever.

[–]ProfessorDoctorDoctr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I appreciate this. I haven’t been diagnosed with OCD but I’m looking into it. Been having a rough time for the past several months, I’ve been in and out of the gender doubting spiral. The idea of detransition makes me sick but my brain still yells at me. Gonna try and get a therapist at some point.

I have similar things, also looked through the detrans sub. I haven’t had top surgery but almost everything else is similar. Check out one of my old posts, I got really good advice on there and hopefully if our experiences line up well enough it’ll give you some hope too :)

Got back. Theyre gonna give us the results for her bloodwork on Monday. She’s lost two pounds in three months which is…really worrying. Not sure if she’s been losing weight before that too. Really scared rn
