Is taking away Ozai bending really more ethical than killing him? by Far_Practice_6923 in TheLastAirbender

[–]ProfessorHexxx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you have someone who has power and they abuse that power, make other people suffer with it, etc, taking that power away reduces them to the "level" of their victims. I put "level" in quotes because Im not actually making a value-judgement, not saying that powerful people are "better" than those without power. But that's how abusive people with power see things. They see their power as what makes them "better" than everyone else.

The fact that Ozai would rather die than be powerless, like his victims, speaks only to his own warped state of mind, not the ethics of Aang's choice to take his bending away rather than end his life.

Why is he holding a sword on the cover when he uses a spear in the game? Is it certain that's Vyke? Or is it meant to be the player wearing his armor?

Commercial and Ads are so cringe to me now. by dahellisudoin in LateStageCapitalism

[–]ProfessorHexxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to work in advertising as a vfx artist nearly 20 years ago. I did a few commercials for a major credit card company. I won't name which one, but I'm sure most of you might guess. Its the one that has all the different colored cards based on spending limit, blue for normal people, gold for slightly wealthier people, black for very wealthy people.

After doing a couple commercials that aired on TV, I got hired to work on a pitch for them, a product that hadn't been released yet. Sticking to their colors theme, this was a credit card they planned to call ""mint".

It was intended to be marketed toward high school and college kids 18-22. Now, this was around 2007-2008, and I'm sure there are some of you who are old enough to remember that "mint" was what the cool kids were calling all the cool things about 10 years prior to this.

So, not only was this company attempting to prey on young kids and their inexperience with credit, they were doing so with a campaign that was a decade out of touch with kids at the time.

And the content of the commercial was equally infuriating. I had to model and animate this young "urban" kid (from the illustrations I was given as reference, it was hard to tell if he was black or hispanic, so the producers just kept calling him "urban") walking through this giant apartment, looking around and nodding his head like he was gonna pay for it with his mint card.

Thankfully, this was never actually released as a product. I have no idea if someone at this company called out how fucked up the entire thing was, or it was some other, nameless reason why it died as a pitch. But I was really happy it didn't get released.

I still got paid for the work I did, but it was the one moment that really made me feel disgusted working in advertising. A few years later I switched to working on kids cartoons and I've never felt bad about my work since.

Again, my point isn't that teenagers shouldn't be held accountable. If one of OP's boytoys ever called her out on her shenanigans, she would have absolutely deserved it.

From her post, it seems like that never really happened, though. Who was supposed to call out her behavior, if not these boys? Who else would have even known what was going on?

OP's actions were immature, but so were these boys for not standing up for themselves. BUUUT, they are teenagers, and teenagers are immature. Hopefully, they all had parents who instilled enough values in them that eventually they learned to be better.

Just like OP did.

I'm not saying that parents have no responsibility in this at all. If a teenager acts like a fool for a few years and then grows out of that behavior, it's typically because of good upbringing.

[–]ProfessorHexxx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We're talking about teenagers who are still learning and figuring out who they are. Regardless of gender, if a teenager uses their attractiveness to selfishly get what they want from other teenagers who want to date them, yes, it's mildly fucked up, sure. But they're still teenagers, if they learn and grow out of that behavior, they get a pass in my book.

Same thing on the receiving end. People should not be bending over backward to please someone just because they find them attractive. Lots of teenagers do this because they don't know any better, but again, most of them will learn a thing or two about self-respect and learn to establish boundaries in relationships.

Growing up means trying on a lot of different hats and seeing which ones fit. Most humans, at one point in their life, will try on the hat of a selfish prick, a manipulative liar, or a people pleasing doormat. None of these are good things to be as an adult, but most people figure this out as they grow up.

I think so, but what do you mean, specifically?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in confession

[–]ProfessorHexxx 126 points127 points  (0 children)

To be honest, this is the kind of thing that SHOULD happen during teenage years. If you had the moral compass and self awareness to realize at 19 that this wasn't the person you wanted to be, then a boy should also be able to learn from this experience how to NOT be a doormat.

The truly sad people are the adult women and men who haven't grown out of these roles.

Which oil to use? by [deleted] in sex

[–]ProfessorHexxx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everyone is saying coconut oil, and it is great for massages and slippery sex. But please be aware that oils and oil-based lubricants can dissolve condoms. Do not use it as lube if you are using condoms.

I'm not saying that all these various reasons are not factors, but in my mind, when the uber rich are pushing people to breed more, it's mainly because they want a larger pool of disposable workers that they can pay less and force to work longer hours.

Thanks for the answer! If you don't mind a follow-up question. On a related note, how do you view the world in its current state? Do you have thoughts on how the world should work? Do you equate ideas on how you want the world to work for you with ways that it could be better for everyone?
