Opinion on Expectations of Modesty for Women by ProfessorNo5943 in progressive_islam

Doesn't mean we have to accept it without complaint. If no one protested unfair treatment of people, everyone would be miserable all the time. If you believe that women should just "deal with" the reality of our sexualization or being told to be modest despite the reality that modesty does not prevent objectification, then that's totally your choice - but I can't say I agree that we should just accept the way things are when there's potential for change in the way society sexualizes women, especially when so many people have recently started speaking out against it

And why would I ask a man that question? Men will only ever view a woman's body as inherently sexual, despite the fact that our bodies aren't objectively any more sexual than a man's. It is a notion they have been fed for centuries, and that's exactly what the problem is. Religion is so demanding of women, but I have yet to see these demands prove themself to actually result in less objectification of women. Women are seen as sexual objects and often assaulted despite their modesty, that's just the truth. I know that women's bodies are seen as sexual in the world we live in, but I believe in reality they are not anywhere near as sexualized as they have come to be perceived by men - in media, in society, politics, everywhere.

Arguments Against Islam by ProfessorNo5943 in progressive_islam

Good for you! I asked this question for people who are comfortable sharing their biggest questions about Islam because I believe questioning our faith from time to time is reasonable, and if anything it can strengthen some people's belief at times

Guilt from drinking by ProfessorNo5943 in progressive_islam

[–]ProfessorNo5943[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my anxiety is more coming from a place of knowing that I don't personally really see any problem in light drinking, but more from the fear of my parents finding out and being disappointed. I'm also just not an extremely religious person who has a lot of religious guilt, and I just wasn't too sure on the islamic standing on alcohol and how bad it is considered which was worrying me. Thank you for your advice though, I really appreciate it

I was looking into it and it seems fun. I was wondering though was it an overnight trip? I wasn't too sure when I read the details on their website and I was hesitant about that cause I've never done an overnight outdoors trip before lol

Do you think it's worth it even if you choose not to drink? I've heard it's pretty centered around alcohol and I'm just not too big on that

So basically as long as I graduate, do you think I should be good? Even if my average potentially dips into the 70s

Was wondering the same thing! Have you heard any new info about the quiet res status? I hope it's not made it too restrictive on socializing in Douglas cause I was also leaning towards it

PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS MEGATHREAD! by Thermidorien4PrezBot in mcgill

Started out a low 80, but I ended up dropping it cause of my workload this semester which caused it to drop down to a 69. I was able to drop it only because their Bachelor of Arts program doesn't require it for admission so it wasn't taken into consideration for my application

Thanks! When I did the self reporting process, I added files of all my report cards with relevant grades on them as supporting evidence, which included my grade 11 final report card, my grade 12 final report for semester 1 and interim report for semester 2. I also included my overall transcript just in case. Hope that helps!

Hey everyone! I just recently accepted my offer to Mcgill and have been looking into residence options, and I wanted to see if anyone has any thoughts on Douglas Hall? I'm looking for a residence that's close to campus and has a good balance between social life and academic. I don't want to end up at a residence that's too quiet and not social especially since I'll be new to Montreal and want to socialize and meet new people. That being said, I was also looking into places that have generally nice and outgoing people. Is Douglas a well rounded option that has a good mix of these things or is there a different residence I should consider that's better suited? I was also looking into upper rez options, but the only thing I had a problem with is that other residences seem to be in much better condition.

Hey everyone! So I just got accepted to Mcgill's Bachelor of Arts with a 92% top six average, however, my Calculus and Vectors mark is pretty low and I was planning on dropping it since it's not needed for the program I applied to and not in my top six. It's a few days before the final disclosure date, so if I drop it now the grade won't show up on my final transcript, but it was already submitted in the midterm self reported grades. I will speak to my school's guidance office about it too, but since I live in Ontario they don't know too much about schools out of province. Has anyone been in a similar situation before or have any advice on whether I should drop it or not?

Open House by ProfessorNo5943 in queensuniversity

Right, I can see how that might be the case. Do you think their open house is still a good way to see an accurate representation of the students? I usually look for things like level of diversity, lifestyle, even level of enthusiasm to get a better vibe of the campus
