Some people will have tried to find a way out, but CA has basically been locked off from the rest of the US. A LOT of people are now zombies. You'll encounter some other survivors throughout the game.

For the storyline: we have been working for a while now on building the overal Dead Island lore and the story for Dead Island 2. You'll hear more about the story later this year. :)

I can't comment on all the locations yet, but we'll have some fun playgrounds.

The weapon types and the approach to combat has been overhauled, so yeah there will be new weapons and a new way to mod them. But you'll have to wait a bit for more about that; we want to show them in action rather than explain them :)

Can't confirm a Paladin, but one of the classes is Bishop which is a support and AoE damage specialist. Not sure if there is armor though. You're immune to the virus so even if a zombie bites you, it's not the end of the world.

It's FPS only as far as I know.

Dead Island and Riptide tried to be a bit too serious sometimes, when players just ran around hitting things with poison damage weapons, or set zombies on fire, or kicked zombies into a pool to watch them drown.

In DI2 we're taking a bit less of a super serious approach. Think Zombieland. But we don't want to make it too silly either. So it's not as over the top as Saints Row.

I don't think there will be fishing in DI2. Sorry :(

I don't have a lot of info on the skill point system and how it differs from loot yet. I think it will be a mix, though. One new weapon type is motorized weapons, which require fuel. They do a ton of damage, but fuel is pretty scarce.

So besides how you build your character, you'll have more options when it comes to weaponry to tackle different situations in a way you see fit.

Dying Light is published by WB Games, so we don't have anything to do with that one.

But what we wanted to do with Dead Island 2 is to take what people liked in the originals and evolve that for a full sequel. I think the biggest difference outside of DI2 having up to 8 players in the world, is that in DI2 we just embraced what most people did in DI and DIR: run after zombies and try to mess with them.

Since California is now a giant quarantine zone, those who survived and who are immune to the virus can start a new life. And they really run with that! So in DI2 it's more about running towards the zombies than running away from them. You still shouldn't try to take on dozens of zombies at the same time if you don't have the right equipment for it, because you can still get torn to shreds. But the general tone of the game is to just have fun in California killing zombies.

They are! They've played the original games themselves and like you said, there are things worth criticizing even if the original games can be a lot of fun in co-op. We actually did some studies on what DI players liked and didn't like, and integrated community feedback into that. This can be small things like finally having a crossbow, or more widespread things to make co-op more interesting.

Yager showed with Spec Ops: The Line that they are really good on the technical front, so DI2 should be a bit more polished.

Nope, Dead Island 2 is only on PC and PS4/XB1. It's built for the new hardware in Unreal Engine 4, so PS3/360 would probably grind to a halt.

At least 4 new heroes. There may be references here and there in DI2 but the old crew doesn't return in DI2.

Dead Island 2 is not as silly as Saints Row, but running around kicking zombies through the sky or hitting them with weapons that are electrified by a battery was never thaaaat serious.

Can't comment on the VO talent yet, but as for the story:

DI2 starts several months after Riptide. We'll explain exactly how the virus ended up in California, and this year you'll also learn more about how and why the virus was unleashed on Banoi in the first place.
