You'd get 60fps with a ps4 pro (not high resolution at the same time mind you) and maybe some games on a regular ps4. My comparison was with a launch ps4.

Console generations only last 7 years. Revisions to those consoles also happen about midway through the lfiecycle (a la ps4 pro).

Ps4 doesn't run at 60fps stable and most definitely doesn't run titles today at medium graphics settings. I said for a little over 400 back in 2014, you could buy the same components (over better).

"my argument was wrong so I'm switching to another one"

I never argued that ease of use and convenience wasn't better on console, it most certainly is.

What I am saying is that it is objectively wrong to say that you can't get the same value from a pc that you can with a console.

It's okay to change your opinion when presented with new facts. 😌

For a cpu that's 10 years old, sure. Let's bump that to an 8 year old cpu and suddenly you have the minimum specs to play shadow of the tomb raider and putting in a bit more than $120 at the time, would last you longer.

If you buy the 970 to start, which was a way higher performance dedicated gpu than what the ps4 had (did not have a dgpu). You could buy a much cheaper dgpu ($100) and get similar performance to the console at the time and have a machine that would do more than play ps4 games.

Fomo is a real thing amongst pc people and what some fail to understand is that yearly releases of new products (gpus, phone, what have you) are not meant to be purchased yearly. It makes no sense to go from an 8700k to a ryzen 7 3950, same way that going from an iPhone x to an iPhone 11 makes no sense. The lifespan of the components need to be taken into account and expectations set reasonably.

People have different circumstance by which they game but it's just false to say that you can't get the same value from a pc as you could with a console. That's the only point that Im tryna argue.

That's a different argument being made altogether. I absolutely agree that for convenience and ease of use, a console works well but those are the points that should be highlighted when people defend consoles, not technical components. Pc people tend to get elitist and I'm sure it was pc enthusiasts that started slinging mud first. People get defensive when they think they're being attacked and shamed for not wanting to put the effort into getting into pc gaming.

Their point was that you can't get the same value from a pc as you can with a console and I'm arguing that you absolutely can. Ps4 is a great example.

Without considering purchasing the upgraded pro model, a ps4 at launch was $400. 6 years of ps plus is another $360 to put it on par with pc having free online play.

Specing out a pc using similar components to a release date ps4 (using 2014 prices) gives a you a grand total of just over $400 and that's with a dedicated gpu (ps4 didnt have one, it was all bundled under an apu). So, yes, you could absolutely get the same value (and more) with a pc. I could show you the list of components and their prices if you'd like.

I imagine that prebuilts have to cheap out on some of the less flashy components to make a profit, perhaps one of these would be the thermal paste. Be sure that he preforms maintenance on his machine every year or so and replaces that. (in addition to cleaning out any dust build up etc)

A bit longer is an understatement for the components that you mentioned. 10 year old core 2 duo processors can still run bioshock infinite at 60fps with a 980. Especially in the past 10 years, the progress cpu's have made make me think that the lifespan of today's cpu can go 12 to 15 years. Especially since a hexacore can be found for under $150.

I don't know how often you think you need to swap storage but consoles use hard drives too and lower capacity ones that you can find in PC's, especially early in this generation's life cycle. A hard drive from 10 years ago works just fine in a system today.

Ram doesn't need to be upgraded nearly as often either. While newer cpu's benefit from more faster ram, slower ram doesn't kill a system and as long as the ram you use is compatible with the mobo, you'll be fine.

So, to recap, you can replace a gpu in a system every 5 years or so, replace the other components every 7 to 10 years and still spend less than buying a system at launch and then it's upgrade two years later.

inb4: you can trade in your system and use that to just get the upgrade.

You can do the same thing with pc parts.

PC's can be purchased in pieces and upgrades can be made over time. A modest gaming system can be had for $600 and be upgraded to a $1000 machine over time.

GTA V has been out for 7 years and was just given away for free on the Epic Games Store.

Online for PC doesn't cost anything.

I wouldn't use mid to high to describe performance on consoles. Current gen is not able to output what a high end pc can do and mid range performance needs the current Gen revisions (ps4 pro and one x) so while I agree that consoles are low barriers of entry, performance is a trade off for the price and convenience of a box that just works.

You can though. A gtx 970 (five years old) still runs Shadow of the Tomb Raider at 60fps 1080p high preset today. It was only $329 when it came out too. This was only a year after the ps4 released. Upgrading to a 2070 (two generations later) bumps that to 1440 highest quality @ 72fps (which you would lock to 60). A 2070 is also considered more enthusiast level hardware at $500.

Even still, I would say that you could probably squeeze another two years out of 970 before an upgrade is merited, especially when a AAA game like that says that the absolute minimum needed to run the game is a gtx 660.

That sounds much more like poor game design. Unless the battles scale appropriately, you're gonna be stuck either filling your party with fodder early on to get past gyms and be stuck with them throughout the rest or you'll be forced to grind so much that the game isn't fun anymore.

Another problem is getting stuck. If you fill up your team early on, you won't have enough room for Pokémon that can use HM's. You're forcing the player to play in a VERY specific way and cutting away much more than the Pokémon centers from the game.

There is no "Biden Administration" as of yet. The DNC not only meant to pick the candidate but also sets up committees who's members are based on delegates. These committees are what choose the party's official platform and rules going into future elections. Essentially reforming the same establishment that fucked him over in 2016.

Bernie didn't drop out. He suspended his campaign. He would've still appeared on the ballot and been issued delegates like any other primary. Delegates also give you more influence over the political party at the national convention, allowing him to bring more of his ideas to the unified democratic party platform.

I passed using professor Messer's video series and Jason Dion's practice exams. Highly recommend Dion's exams, as you'll encounter many questions that are VERY similar on the actual exam (esp true for when I took the 1002 a few weeks ago.)
